    Howdy,
Do you think this route would be possible in 6 weeks?
Beunos Aires to UShuaia (tour around for a few days)
Ushuia to Santiago by bus ( without a couple of days touring)
Santiago to La Paz via salt plains
La Paz to Cuzco via Titicaca
    Trek to Machu Pichu
Lima to Rio to take in the city and the Iguazu Falls.
    The end.
Is this possible - what do you think? I know it would be better to concentrate on one or two countried but I probably won' be back to S.America for years.
    Thanks.

Going down to Ushuaia by bus, hanging around a few days and then going to Santiago by bus is going to probably take 2 weeks alone. The distances are huge. You'd almost waste a week just getting down there and back. Also depends on the time of year as in their winter a lot of the roads become impassable.

I'm not sure if everything is by bus but if so it will be a tough 6 weeks. Santiago to La Paz is also a huge distance. I imagine almost 2 days on crap roads for a lot of the journey. Then most trips within Bolivia are an overnight bus job. And they are tiring as their buses aren't of the same standard as Chile or Argentina.

If you are flying it will be possible. But that's still a lot for 6 weeks. Regardless of when i'd be returning to the continent i think i'd rather see a lot of one or two countries than see little of loads in a rush.

that is a lot to do in 6 weeks.the journey from santiago to the salt plains is at least 24h.then its 3 days through the salt plains if you take a tour.i would book the flight from lima to rio in advance.when i was there, i booked a flight two weeks before(last minute decision) from santiago to rio and it was at least 300euro.

Most internal flights within South America from one country to another are expensive no matter when you book them. Most of the airlines have to keep a certain number of flights at a certain price for their own citizens. Not saying they can't be found but it's difficult to find them.

maybe when you go on to the airline site go to the spanish/portugese site rather thatn the english one.i think someone told me thats a good way to get cheaper internal flights in south america.
