Disability Allowance

    Hi all,

I am trying to calculate disability allowance for a friend of mine that has rheumatism and is unable to work. She was recommended to claim Disability Allowance by the local medical centre.

Her partner earns about 420 euro a week (gross minus PRSI). She is not earning anything as she cannot claim job seeker's allowance whilst applying for disability benefit.

They are living together and are paying 475 a month rent.

    The calculations are confusing.
    Income from spouse's/partner's work
Weekly earnings are gross earnings less PRSI, superannuation and union dues.

€20 euro per day (up to a maximum of €60) from work is deducted from your spouse's/partner's average weekly earnings and then 60% of the balance is assessed as weekly means. The weekly means is then deducted from the combined total of your personal rate of Disability Allowance and the maximum Increase for a Qualified Adult.

    I dont understand this part:
€20 euro per day (up to a maximum of €60) from work is deducted from your spouse's/partner's average weekly earnings
Why is it 20 upto 60? what determines what figure is used?

    Then it says:
The weekly means is then deducted from the combined total of your personal rate of Disability Allowance and the maximum Increase for a Qualified Adult.
Does that mean that since the two figures are:
Personal rate (claimant) €204.30 (maximum rate)
    Qualified adult €135.60 (maximum rate)
That the weekly means is deducted from €339.9?

So the calculation I am getting is:
    1.
    Spouses work: €20 (per day) x 5 days = €100 per week
    60% of the remainder = €192
Then (personal rate of Disability Allowance plus the maximum Increase for a Qualified Adult): €339.90 minus €192 = €147.90

    2.
    Spouses work: €60 (per day) x 5 days = €300 per week
    60% of the remainder = €72
Then (personal rate of Disability Allowance plus the maximum Increase for a Qualified Adult): €339.90 minus €72 = €267.90

What it basically means is that for each day the partner works, 20 euro is deducted but the maximum deducted in one week is 60.
So if they work 1 days, 20 is deducted
    2 days, 40
    3 days, 60
    4 days, 60
    5 days, 60
    6 days, 60

so (I think) calculation would be
Personal rate (claimant) €204.30 (maximum rate)
    Qualified adult €135.60 (maximum rate)

    (420 per week - 60 max) * 60% = 216

    204.30 + 135.60 - 216 = 123.90 per week in disability.

However this may be wrong as I'm only working off one cup of coffee today :)
