Why would you want to drive around in an unsafe car?

i think technically you are as the disc will still be valid for 3 months.

It could fail on a non-safety related issue, such as emmisions.

I sure seeing as you have a valid disc, you are leagally allowed on the road. It is a good question though as technically, they have told you the car is not in fit condition to be road legal

Just because your car fails the nct on something it doesn't mean your car is unsafe to drive.

FFS, the reason for a fail could be down to emissions or a brake light bulb. Try thinking first before you post.

All of those types of issues are very easily solved, and can be checked before going for the test.

Thanks for the ad hominem attack though, I really deserved to be taken down a peg or two, I'll be sure to seek your permission to post in future.

High and mighty? I asked a question of someone who was planning on driving a car that failed a very very basic safety test. Driving is a dangerous pursuit even in a safe car, I don't want anyone taking risks on the roads in cars that aren't road worthy.

If you are going for the NCT then you can very easily ensure you have the silly stuff sorted, that just leave emissions and safety issues. The emissions can be a safety issue for other road users, the car issues would be an issue for the driver, and those they would come in contact with.

Your posting in this thread has been facepalm-worthy my friend.

Conventional wisdom would be to attempt a dignified withdrawal...

Lads, how about we put the handbags away? Bickering back and forth only serves to take this off-topic.

aside from the bickerfest here, i'm wondering whether if i do my nct a couple of months early and pass is my disc still only valid for 2 years from when i did it, or from 2 years after the initial nct was to expire?

I've just had my car in the garage for a service and dont fancy risking anything happening it over the next 2 months waiting for the nct date to come again!!

it adds 2 years onto ur existing date, I.E. Expires 1-6-11 will go to 1-6-13

I don't think you are allowed to drive the car out of a test centre if the fails are so bad that it's described as "Unsafe and should not be driven".

    True.

I brought out a 206 to be tested that had just been traded in, the tester burst a brake hose during the test, and had to tow the car away and repair at my own expense. Obviously brake hose wasn't great to start with, but was using the NCT test to identify what work needed to be done !
