I have friends and family that work for the public sector and private sector. I was talking to some of them and was surprised at the off hand remarks they get on a daily basis.

People working in banks get a lot of " Sure this is all your fault" sometimes in jest but often in anger.

People in Fas getting " Sure you can just get a free holiday why do you care"

You get the idea, general workers in a sector getting abuse from customers because of head line reading or perceived responsibility which by no means could be their fault.

Even in jest it is pretty unfunny nor original. It is a serious strain on some of them. Fas seems the worst as the people have to spend time discussing options with belligerent abusive people who feel the person in front of them has done them wrong.

Not condoning it, but it's one of the many fun things about working in the public.

They get generally rude people too I am talking about the mentality of blaming a cashier for the countries economic down turn.

The bank staff are responsible for the economic crisis,

FAS staff are responsible for all the extravagant spending,

    Nurses are responsible for C-Diff,

Teachers are responsible for all failed examinations,

RTE are responsible for Pat Kenny,

The unemployed are responsible for everything,

Blah di Blah di blah - the sooner people realise that we all had some part to play, the better. Stop moaning and fix the problem.

I've had people blame me for the prices in OTHER SECTIONS not matching the sterling rate when it first fell.

Just saying,it's an unfortunate part of working with the public,I've put up with it for years. They need to grow up and ignore the nutters like the rest of us do.

Yep, front line bank staff take abuse on a daily basis :(

"We own you now" being a common sneer
Well it's actually not a terrible comment, more the way that it is said. Far worse is said

Now from working in bars and hotels abuse is expected and is no big deal at all
But you shouldn't be putting up with this in a bank, even if it's realy a customer service job

You should never expect abuse, doesn't matter a jot if it's a shop/cafe/bank.

I am surprised and disappointed at it in a bank though.

Why?Are bank workers somehow "better" than a barperson?Do they deserve it less?

You really aren't comparing like with like . People complaining about what the prices are is not the same as blaming somebody for the economic down turn or suggestions of personal corruption.

    I never said that.
And I did post they were basically customer service jobs, read my post again

It's similar. They were blaming me for the euro/sterling rate, and saying that I (personally) was ripping them off. Just trying to make the point that rudeness and thickness is a crappy part of dealing with the mental cases that are the general public.

The public sector are not so high and mighty that they shouldn't be treated the same as the rest of us.
