Manchester based Keating supercars is going after the world’s fastest production car title with their 1800 horsepower TKR supercar.

Last month at the Salt Lake Flats in California they hit a top speed of 260.1 mph (416 km/h) on the first of two runs.

Looks like a kit car to me with some styling from Saleen S7. I don't get how come with 1800 hp it is just 7 miles faster than the Veyron. Very bad aerodynamics?

bunch of pics and more here.

That's because the Veyron has the same engineering pedigree as the famous TDi engine. And that one, as we all know, is the fastestest engine in the whoooooooole wide world.

Yeah, there's a lot of supercars that look like the Saleen, it's an efficient shape.
Regards top speed, there's two things to consider.

Firstly, 1800 bhp, but it says nothing about the torque or power band in general.
To be honest, horsepower is crap, torque is what you need and it's hard to make a fair comparison without a dyno sheet.

Secondly, the amount of power to get extra speed goes up exponentially the faster you go,
ie to increase top speed on a car from 200 to 220 might require 100 bhp, but 220 to 240 could require well over 200.

I read about it in an article in RaceCar Engineering years ago, I can't for the life of me rememember the example they gave,
so those numbers could (and most likely are) be waaaaaaaay out

it has something to do with air resistance. at around 230 mp you need 50 hp for every 1mph gain. and that was what the veyron designers are reputed to have worked out! so i assume at 250 mph the power to speed gains get further diluted?
