I'm looking for some info on DSLR cameras for taking photos in a tournament environment, I know from reading some posts here other people have gone down this road... No point in reinventing the the wheel..

First time buying a DSLR camera so any advice here welcome, with that in mind only looking to spend around €300 for a second hand camera.

Is there anything I need to take account of?

    Lighting etc,

Anything for €300 second hand should be decent Myles. Either that or you are being ripped off!

Check out adverts.ie for some good offers and also dpreview.com for some great indepth reviews on cameras.

As for taking poker photos in particular. Can I just advise that you buy a stand or a support strap (to remove hand shake) and take the shots with a camera with a good quality lens that doesn't require a flash indoors to take good pics.

    Thanks Olly, appreciate that.
support strap (to remove hand shake).
Wonder if this would stop the hands shaking when I get pocket A's :)

    Thanks Olly

hey man... I actually have a Canon 350D. Bought it a few years ago with the plan to get into photography...take a course etc. But it has barely been used since.

When I bought it I got it for a unreal online price of €550. It was €850 in the shops at the time. Even on pixmania etc it was €650.

Might be willing to sell it to you. Let me know if you're interested, and I'll think about it if you are.

Thanks Maddog, been there. posted here because it's very specific (tournament environment) and maybe get people who are doing it/done it to give advice.

At the launch of the Poker Room Cellbridge a young fella that worked there had some pretty high end photography equipment, he took some really good shots maybe find out who he is and ask him and try dig out the thread to see what his pics were like.

I also have a friend of mine who is big into photography i will give him a shout and ask him for some advice.
