Disney's A Christmas Carol

Did anyone go see this yet?
I went the other day. It's good but very creepy and wouldn't think it's suitable for young kids.
Just wondering though did anyone spot the mistake when Marley's ghost visits Scrooge?

Definately been looking ofrward to seeing it but like most kids films these days, I didn't think it looked too appropriate for kids.

It's great but not for kids. It's not to scray but kids just wouldn't get the story. Over tens sure, but the five and six year olds.

There was trailer for Alice In Wonderland 3D and that looks amazing. The 3D effects on it look amazing so looking forward to that.

From the trailer I saw during Toy Story 3D, it's pretty much made for 3D. A lot of 'jump out at you' bits. Looked pretty impressive.

I'm wondering how long it'll stay in the cinema. Feels too early to see it now.

I too am a Jim Carrey nut but this movie will not satisfy you on that level I'm afraid. It is such a good preformance by Jim that you will barely know it's him.

As for 3D it's good but you'll soon forget it's in 3D as your eyes adjust. No 3D Wow moments for me at least.

Still loved it though and am going again if I can catch it in Screen 17 in Cineworld. Savoy 1 is not a 3D screen as far as I know.

Thats fine. Im such a Jim Carrey fan I can appreciate him even when he's not ace Ventura :P

I don't mean he's not been his usual face strecthing self

I mean, if I hadn't of know it was Jim Carrey then I wouldn't have figured it out. Jim broadband stands out but Jim doesn't.

First and foremost.....the definitive Christmas Carol movie involves The Muppets. That has to be said!

Watched the 'Premier' of this in Dundrum. Have to say it is very very dark, especially for the kids. When the ghost of Marley

shouts at him so loud that his jaw rips off!

Some scenes did seem very contrived as just made for a theme ride. For example

the Ghost of Christmas Present when hovering over the town houses.

Also the Ghost of Christmas Past......what the heck was going on with his accent!? "Diddley eye me hole".

Oh and the ending seemed very rushed.

Eh.......so it's not great. Good but not a must see.

I have to admit, I thought it was very dark, but the original novel was intended to be that way so I thought it went well. The ending seemed very rushed and it felt like there was a lot of scenes left out.

I understand alot of scenes were added purely to maximise the 3d effects so I regret seeing it in 2d, so if anyone is thinking of going to go see it, do go see it in 3d it would be worth, all in all it was a great adaption of the novel but I would had loved to have seen it in December and not November!

Apparently Zemickis is following up with an adaptation of The Nutcracker. I'm actually kinda interested to see what he can do with a non-human leading cast (as the pseudo-realistic humans are too far in the uncanny valley for me).

when the ghost of Marley visits scrooge he says that the three ghosts will visit one one the first night another at the same time on the second night and the last when the clock strikes whatever on the third night but then they all visit on the one night as they do in the original story

That's how it is in Dickens' novel apparently.

Does Scrooge himself not make reference to this fact near the end?

I enjoyed this. The animation was great and it looked absolutely splendid in 3D.

Saw it last night. Brilliant. Just brilliant. Best Disney film I have seen in a very long time. The 3-D effects were amazing, and I was quite sceptical going in.

Loved it too ..

Seen it at 10.30 in the morning in Cineworld and was only 20 or so people there. Class movie.

The trailer to Alice In Wonderland looks great also ..

Yeah, can't wait to see that. This "new-3-d" stuff is fairly impressive. The depth perception I got was what impressed me, not the chains shooting at the screen, etc. I mean, when you saw someone walking around their house through the window from the street, you really got a sense of being there. People who focus on the flying scenes are really missing the point, effects-wise.

Even if you took the 3-D effects out, it is still a great film.

Avoiding Work

Took my 8 year old niece to see this at the weekend and had to leave half an hour into it. Ghosts frightened the life out of her and she was having nightmares for a couple of nights afterwards!!
Not a particularly sensitive child and given that it is a Disney PG film I had no concerns in bringing her; however I dont think this film was aimed at the correct audience.


That said... going to drag the other half to see it this weekend !!
