ie for me, always just seems more Irish to me

.ie, naturally! But doesnt that cost more? Whats this site going to be about? Can you give us any info, or is it all hush hush???? ;)

it will be a current events site more or less

I just need a name and a decision on .com or .ie and its ready to go

would carlowlive or carlowonline or incarlow sound a bit ham?

and .ie costs about 5 times more than .com for some strange reason

    .ie I think.

depends on how you;re goign to finance it. If you are covering all the costs and dont mind maying through the nose for an ie addresses, then go for it. If costs are going to be paid for via the site, then I'd keep costs to a minimum and go for the .com.

Personally, I'd go for .com as ive never ever seen the advantage of a .ie address even though I had a few for a couple of years.

Slight personal bias on my part but .ie is the way to go. Search engine results etc will favour a .ie for Irish Content over .com (in some circumstances). Infact get both. Also get the a .eu

Anyways good on you, there's something needed for the Carlow area as currently there's nothing out there.

only when you select 'search in ireland' afaik

    carlowonline for me.

I don't care if its .com or .ie but if it was me, I'd be going for the cheaper option.

No, when you come from an Irish IP...

so if you host your site in america and it makes no odds if you have an IE address or not? thats a bit mad. actually, I think I know what you mean. If its isp based then if i was in germany it would read 'germany' instead of 'ireland'.

Thats answered that for me anyway.

There's a certain amount of voodoo involed. However hosting in Ireland on a .ie will ensure that you reach your target audience.

I am pretty sure there is a carlowlive.com already. I'd prefer .ie anyways.

yeah google seems to put some weight on ip range and domain extension for local search results,it does seem to be an advantage to go local host and domain but the prices for both are a bit too high in my opinion

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35 trickobrien

Ok I did a little checking today-30 euro for a .ie domain-thats if I get accepted, and 10 euro a month for about the same disc space as is on my mobile phone

    WTF!!!

Iamhunted thats decent of you but the site will need more than that.I use gdaddy for domain registration but obviously they dont do .ie-man I cant believe this rubbish with hosting and domain red tape, its a complete change from what I ve been doin up to now

Actually tell yeah what. I'll reimburse you for it when you have it up and running if I can advertise my Business on it. Might even give you some extra to be main advertiser if its upto scratch..:D

    True..

    Ok them prices + VAT.

By the way I have no link to Blacknight apart from using them myself.

I can get domains at 25 incl. VAT PA, which is great. Lots of expensive places to purchase them out there.

    Again this is true.

BK had them at €18 when I got my last one and €10 the one before that.
You just have to keep an eye out for when they have deals on.

But my point is mainly if its a Carlow site why not use a Carlow business??

They have a Rep on boards so maybe if he explains what he wants to do they may even give him some sort of discount...
