Lidl Dundrum "High End PC" - Bargain or NOT?

Offer in the door for Lidl Dundrum for Thursday 12th November, can't find it online as it is a store opening offer. They refer to it as "State of the Art Technology" - I personally think that this is sharp practice.

I am posting this as a "bargain" alert (if you believe it to be so- I certainly don't!)

"TARGA High-End Dual Core PC" - €400
"This Multimedia PC is exclusively built using the latest high-end components from reputable hardware producers"

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 (X2 5200) Dual Core

"Huge Memory" - 2048mb (quotes mine)
"Huge Hard Drive" - 500GB
"Stunning Graphics" - ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512mb
"High Definition DVD Player" - Toshiba HD DVD (:eek:yes, you read right)

Finished off nicely with "Windows Vista Home Premium".

Now, I am no computer expert but (think) I know enough to know this is not a "latest high end" component PC.

It's a while since 2gigs of ram was Huge.
It's a while since 500gigs was a Huge Hard drive.
The Graphics card from what I can tell was a budget one in 2007.
No need to elaborate on the HD DVD player or Vista.

I'm posting this as a "Bargain Alert" as Lidl appear to think so. Maybe you do too.

If I lived in Dundrum I would feel like picketing outside the store for trying to sell off old hardware to unsuspecting types who think Lidl is normally genuine for bargains.

Going on what you've said I don't see it as a bargain. The components are relatively weak and old. Usually these lidl builds come with a load of accessories/connections that do add value though so depending on that it maybe a decent deal.

Would have been a middle of the road PC 2 years ago.

I'm getting the impression that people think I was asking was it a bargain. I should have been clearer.

When I said I would personally picket outside the store that was my way of saying I personally thought it was a rip off! The inclusion of the HD DVD player says a lot!

That's what I thought you were doing all right. :)

ps - they are also offering a TARGA DVD recorder DR-5200x - for Eur160 - a google search shows that this first went on sale in Lidl Germany in November 2005 - 4 years ago

All joking aside - I think that offering equipment this old to unsuspecting customers of Lidl Dundrum is shoddy to say the least.

@ OP, with respect, you knew this is not a BA yet you posted it here, it would be more appropriate in Rip off Ireland, Consumer issues or the Computer fourm, bad enough bargain requests being posted here time and time again

Fair point slave1, I see where you're coming from.
The reason I posted it as a "bargain" is because it has been advertised as such by Lidl.

People that have received the flyer may well have assumed it to be a bargain and hence "Bargain alerts" could be argued as a good location to discuss it.

(Mods please move if inappropriate thanks)

Hmmmm -have to agree with OP here, this is probably the best palce to flag what Lidl are doing here (stickin it to average joe's).

Lidl always have opening offers for new stores. If you follow their offers religiously, you will recognise them as stuff that has been on offer in the past.

It's a handy way of shifting old stock..

The Targa Now 8821 is the one you want:

http://www.targa.co.uk/index.jsp?SID=0&NAV=236&PCAT=2&PTUBE=10&PROD=452

Much better spec.
It came out in November last year for €800 asfaik,
it dropped down to €400 in feb/march, i secured mine for €400 in june.

(I had problems securing it, see my rant and praise)

The build quality is better than you'd find in any big name brand,
Haven't had one single problem so far,
every part is made by reputable manufactures,
you simply cannot go wrong with an ASUS motherboard & nVidia chipset,
(it saved me when modding my xbox)

The weaknesses: its not a Full HD gaming graphics card by any means, (grand for lower resolutions)
350W power supply, PC Express 1.0, DDR2 Ram...
but for the price at the time it was anbeatable bargain.

Instead of upgrading it for full hd gaming, i just bought an xbox for €120 instead and saved a fortune.

It would be gas if they advertised the wrong PC again, and it ended up being the one i have. :p
Cant see a mix up working in peoples favour though!

That PC looks like an effort to flog off stocks of old hardware. Like...a HD-Rom? Seriously...pointless doesn't cover it.

Its stupid alright, and had they just stocked more of them the time it actually was a good deal, they wouldnt have to flog them off so late.

500 gigs isn't a huge hard drive now anymore?...
