Is it legal to offer 'commission only ' employment?

Sound like you'd work hard, and get little in return.

Like all sales jobs, the recruiter never mentions what they're selling. It would be helpful if you'd say what the person is to sell, whether it's toothbrushes, or tablet pc's, then at least someone might know if they'd want to apply. Although commission only? You could count me right out.

What about minimum wage? Can you employ someone and not at least pay minimum wage?

Apologies,I was unsure if I was allowed give x amount of detail.
It is an online entertainment guide and you will not be selling as opposed to gathering information and passing it onto the Sales Manager.

In regards the legality, ive been advised that as long as the person agrees to a commission only role there is no issue.

    Thanks for the feedback

If the commission earned does not equal the equivalent minimum wage, then the employer is legally obliged to make up the differernce.

The commission earned to those who are meeting their contractual requirements will more then meet minimum wage.

    Thanks
    Steve

You can't contract someone to do a minimum amount of work in X time.

    Benefits....
    Excellent commission

Seeing as the only pay you get is commission you have effectively said:

    Benefits....
The potential of a salary (but if you meet your contractual obligations).

The way you are presenting it looks and sounds like a load of crap to me.

You are trying to remove every shred of risk to yourself by getting people to do a job that will potentially earn them nothing. What's to stop you hiring a thousand people to sell it for you because all you have to do is pay commission for the sales they make. What restaurant is going to increase their overheads by paying for a subscription to or membership in an online guide that only internet users will see. Two years ago this would be a great idea. Right now it's pure folly, and your also trying to get a few scapegoats (because that's what they will end up as) to sell it for you too. It may not have been your intention whatsoever; but this makes you look like a complete asshole.

thanks all for any constructive feedback, this was my first time putting up a job request and apologies to those i have offended in some way. I took your advice and have tweeked the offer and i have filed the roles.

Can i just point out this is not a scam and i really dont understand the negative reaction to the posting. I find it difficult to understand to be honest

Check out the site here www.greatfoodplaces.com and www.pubmonster.com
The travel section is fairly unbeatable so strongly recommend you book through it and the site will be populated with Irish venues over the coming months
