Farmer in south of Ireland had Straw for sale to total of €650,A farmer up north said he buy it,so northern farmer takes straw said payment will follow, the nephew let the straw leave yard.So after months trying to get payment of out the northern farmer no joy,so southern farmer went to soiltor said cost at least €250 ex Vat to go to court, and said the laws in north could be differnt to south,so he wondering should he get a solictor in the north to act for him in north,or go ahead with his own solictor. So have any farmers here been in same predicament.

    Any advice would be great
    Thanks

and dont think that a cheque is a worthwhile form of payment, not worth the paper they are written on in this climate. CASH all the way, that way you know where you stand.

    Jackell,
Check out the small claims process. Doesn't cost a fortune and granted it doesn't guarantee you your money back but it at least delivers a message to your payment shy 'customer'

theres no problem accepting cheques, but the potential buyer must understand from the start that no asset/s leaves the premises until all funds are confirmed as clear and in your account. Then you can release the goods. Dont bow to pressure like "but im in the area today and need to collect" etc

Go up to the bugger and retive relative value in goods, not the real answer but might provide satisfaction

If 'your' straw burns in 'his' shed - who claims the insurance? :p

(Not advocating you heading up north with torches now mind you)

Go to solicitor up north and try sending one solicitors letter and tell him you are reporting it to the PSNI. It may not get your money but you will have done as much as you can do for what its worth. Just be careful in future. You are only wasting your time solicitors from south or Garda on this fellow. You nevar know if the police give him a call and he gets one solicitors letter it may just rattle him. Dont spend too much on this lesson.
