This comes from the forum on overrated and underrated TV shows.

Of the above tv shows which ones have you heard off?

Looks like F&G will win most underrated TV show in this poll.

I wish I was one of the 33% of people who has never heard of Freaks and Geeks. I would go look it up now and spend the next few days having the wonderful treat of watching this show for the first time.

    So jealous.:(:)

I think some didn't realize this was Multiple Choice.

I think you will find many people disagreeing with you on The Wire, the possible think it is the best TV show ever.

The reasoning behind this poll was the fact that so many of the above well known and not so well know TV shows are considered either overrated or underrated and really it is just to see if some show really haven't been promoted and are actually underrated or perhaps overrated.

    Under rated != unheard of

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,004 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

Not only heard of 'em all but watched every episode of them all except for 'Heroes' which I gave up on this year.

Surely pick something a tad more obscure like 'Carnivale'. Or short-lived shows like 'VR. 5', 'Brimstone' and 'Total Recall 2070' if you're asking people if they've heard of them.

I couldn't think of the name of Carnivale.

No but it helps a good show get recognized when it is heard of, and hype does play into programmes, I am surprised everyone so far has heard of The Wire, perhaps its hype has made it overrated.

Christ you would want to have been living under a stone not to have heard of all of those shows.
For a start four of them already have sub-forums on boards, so just a shimmy of the mouse pointer to the drop-down and you would have heard of them.

Just posted this in the other thread:
OP here. There seems to be a bit of confusion as to what over/underrated means. IMO it's not about how much a tv station hypes a show up (with advertising etc) or how many people have heard of a tv show. Under/overrated is society's viewpoint versus your own. Let's take football. There are some footballers who are constantly praised (by media and fans alike) as the best there is. But when you see them play you think they are good, but not world class, i.e they are overrated. Then there are footballers who are constantly mocked and joked about being the worst in the world. You see them play and although they're certainly not the best, you think they're ok, i.e. underrated. Hope this clears it up a little

Well then your the best person to lets us know if they are all hyped. Go out and watch them for us and let us know what you think. Thanks. It should only take a couple of days in a locked room with a DVD player and a TV.

Yeah sure, I'll get started right away....here's my blog to keep you updated :D

I can't really explain why I don't enjoy US shows that much  When The Soprano's first came out a friend told me it was the greatest thing ever and that i would love it (because I enjoyed gangster movies) yet I thought it was dull as hell .

I've watched a few bits & pieces of Lost & Prison Break but I thought they were just the pits and all those CSI shows have been done to death (no pun intended :p)

The only shows I have been able to follow in recent years are Boston Legal, it was the fact that Shatner & Spader were in it that got me hooked. Lie To Me, again it was the casting of the main character that got me interested.

And the most recent one is True Blood, but I'm not sure how long that will hold my interest if a decent storyline doesn't come along soon.

The only other series I can think of off the top of my head that might interest me is 24. I haven't seen any of them so one weekend I might rent the first series and give it a go.

    *cough* Battlestar Galactca *cough*

thats my no.1 - my top fav shows have shifted a little over the years but i cant just pick topfavs because they need to be categorised into scifi, comedy, action, drama & animated

    Heard off all of them.

Heard of them all but The Wire is the only one I actually watch. Wouldn't mind seeing Freaks & Geeks and Oz sometime, if I get around to them. Used watch Lost but gave up after the 2nd season because Jack Shepherd is possibly the single most irritating TV character in history. Have zero interest in 24 or Heroes. I've heard of Rescue Me but don't know what it's about.

Heard of them all, but only watched Oz and The Wire in its entirety. I watched a few episodes of Lost and thought it was awful shíte. I might start watching 'Rescue Me' sometime..Thank god for american televison and HBO in particular. Anyone heard of 'In Treatment', staring Gabriel Byrne? I'm thinking about starting that..

The shows were selected on the basis of hype.

IMO and I could be wrong the following are cultish and hyped

    Freaks and Geeks
    The Wire
    Oz
    Rescue Me

while the following are hyped because of TV executives: -

    Lost
    24
    Heroes

It is just a small poll I could have used other shows but based on the Overrated/Underrated TV show thread I wanted to actually see what was well know and what could be considered overrated/underrated.

So Far it looks like Freaks and Geaks, Rescue Me and Oz are highly underrated and I suggest that those of you who have not yets seen them should have a look.

    Warning on OZ

Ahh Freaks and Geeks, probably the best show that I have ever seen.

I've seen probably the first season of Lost and some of the second season, just got bored of it after that, nothing actually happens and they are just dragging it out after they got an audience interested in it.

Watched a few episodes of some of the others like Rescue Me but never got into them, don't really think tv is up to much these days.

    I've heard of them all.

Why is there no option of "Have heard of all them"? Surely not having that there makes the entire thing a waste of time.

I have not only heard of all those shows but have watched them in their entirely. I never thought of Carnivale as being obscure, sure it had a cult following but it did get a lot of coverage when it aired. Something like Good Vs. Evil or the Chronicle would be what I consider obscure given that I have never meet another person who has seen all the episodes. Hell I've only ever met one or two people who have heard of the shows.

I did think of that but I went with none as people who have never heard of any of these shows would not vote if they hadn't heard of them and that option wasn't available to them, if you have heard of them all you can choose all of them.

Poll needs more AMC. I mean is there anyone who genuinely doesn't like Breaking Bad? (I know there are some freaks who fon't like Mad Men).
