    Hi Guys,

Sorry I know this topic has been flogged a lot and is similar enough to the thread over the weekend on falling subs but I just wanted to get your opinion on something.

I was a member for 3 years in Citywest Golf Club. €1600 a year with no joining fee was a great deal at the time but for a poorly run "club" it is far to expensive so I never renewed in the summer.

I am a big fan of Naas Golf Club and they have membership available. At the moment it is €9000 to join but they are not accepting applications at the moment because they are going to reduce it at the AGM in December.

What do you think the joining fee will reduce to?

I personally dont think people will pay joining fees anymore as people just dont have the cash and are not willing to borrow for it. Is it likely that clubs will just charge an annual sub? And that existing members who have paid the joining fee will pay slightly less of an annual fee than new "pay by the year members"?

I'd be really interested to hear peoples thoughts on this. I'm really keen on joining Naas but I don't think i'd be prepared to pay a joining fee when I can pay by the year in Killeen or Millicent or somewhere....

I can see it levelling out at around 1000 to 1200E a year with no joining on fee. If it goes higher people will get a country membership and spend the remainder playing green fees. If you could get country membership for 200 the that would leave a 1000 to spend on green fees.........thats a lot of golf at 20E a round.

Citywest is not worth a grand never mind €1600, the courses are par 65 and par 68. The competitions are Mickey Mouse stuff and neither course is any way long
