This evening at eight, in the Aston Suite, Alexander Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin 2 (around the corner from the Davenport), the ISS is delighted to welcome David McWilliams who will discuss "A skeptical appraisal of Ireland’s economic woes."

David is already well-known, but prior to his public work, he worked in the Central Bank of Ireland, UBS Bank and Banque Nationale de Paris. He is a popular journalist, broadcaster and documentary maker and has published two books, “The pope’s children” and “The generation game”. His third book, “Follow the money” is published last week (October 30th). His latest documentary “Addicted to money” has just finished its run on RTE and will be shown in Australia next month. More information is available on his website at www.davidmcwilliams.ie.

Given David’s popularity, we advise you arrive early on the night.

Admission as usual is €3 for members and concessions; €6 for non-members.

Is a he a massive Atheist or something?

...he's also a shameless self-promotor, makes a ridiculous amount of attempts to get his cringeworthy jargon to stick ("Pope's Children", "Decklanders", "Breakfast Roll Man") when no-one else want's to use it, and as we have seen from him hosting The Panel, not very funny.

I'm sure the ISS will appreciate my skepticism of the man and on the matter.

Boy, it must really annoy you that he was pretty much right about it all.

(First person to use a stopped clock analogy displays a vastness of ignorance that one should not be proud of.)

You're making an entirely unfounded assumption. It doesn't annoy me at all that he was dead right about our property bubble. What does annoy me about him are the the things I mentioned in my previous post.

Edit: Just to clear up any confusion, by "on the matter" I meant the promotion of his talk (about economics, coinciding with the recent launch of his new book available in all good bookstores, yadda, yadda) on the Atheism & Agnosticism forum.

Fair enough. It just seemed like you really hated the guy.

I too think it is my place to tell an A&A mod what is appropriate for the A&A forum.
    No I don't

Well, he has gone and ruined The Panel. (my last mention of him and the topic, I swear)

I agree, we shouldn't ever question or criticize authority.
    Seriously, I do

Ugh, what a blatant strawman. Don't you feel shame?

Yes, but they also make 1338 wrong predictions per day, every day. More if you count seconds.

Does David McWilliams make 1338 wrong predictions per day? If so, can you list out a few hundred of them that have been widely published?

I'm not giving McWilliams a rusty trombone here, fwiw, I'm just pointing out that such cliched statements of criticism are often foolish at best.

As, no doubt, will this forum appreciate your forthcoming holiday if you don't contribute something worth reading.

I should hope so, otherwise Robin has been fluffing up his Boards CV.
