    Hi,

IMRA via a mighty Munster gal are organising a hillrun on the 22nd November. New course, new records and all for a good cause too. Can't beat the charity angle apparently...

    http://www.imra.ie/events/view/id/716/

Registration: U.I. Activity Centre, Killaloe, Co. Clare Race Start: 12noonBallycuggan Woods, Killaloe, Co. Clare
Organisers Instructions: Race Director is Barbara Clancy: barbara dot clancy at gmail dot com Directions: Take the Dublin road from Limerick and take the first exit off the roundabout after Birdhill following signs for Ballina/Killaloe. Cross the bridge from Ballina to Killaloe and take an immediate right at the end of the bridge. A couple of miles (or thereabouts 'ish') out this road you'll come to an obvious car park on the right hand side by the lake. There will be tea, sandwiches and showers after.

Looks good and apparently suitable for all abilities. It'd be my first imra race. Any suggestions for decent shoes for this type of thing?

If it's your first race you'd probably be alright in regular roadshoes, just ask a few of the lads at the race what they are wearing should you decide to keep it up and take it handy on the descents.
If you're good to go the salomon speedcross 2 is a good shoe for most races BUT does have a very soft (and grippy) undersole and so does wear out quite quickly.
Inov8 have a good range of offroad shoes and there has been plenty of threads on shoes on the main forum. Plenty of club runners like the Puma Trailfox.

    cheers

Peter is this where the Brian Boru challenge took place?? Jesus I was going to wait till next year before I took on something like that again but I might be tempted to do this again

For this sort of thing, I used to wear those shoes that are intended for football on astroturf. They have little plastic studs that give grip. They can be got quite cheaply, even in those rapper clothes shops that pose as sports stores.;)

If you want to do trail running/IMRA races on a regular basis, I would suggest paying more for either of these two:

    Walshs

    Adidas

I think it is around a tenner a head. I understand it is a charity fundraiser.

Your best bet would be to email the organiser.

The usual entry fee at an IMRA race is €7.
There is a once off yearly registration fee of €10.

First timers pay €17, registered previously €7

At this time of the year (registrations runs till 31st December) there may be a one off fee somewhere between €7 and €17 for first timers as you are unlikely to get another run in this year. That is probably open to the race organisers discretion.

It's generally €7 standard entry fee and €10 to register for the year. However, Munster may do it differently. I remember running an MMRA race over Christmas one year and paying a different fee anyway.

Considering it but haven't made up my mind yet. Have never run this kind of thing before so a little unsure if I'll be way out of my depth.

Wouldnt think so Blueskye, certainly from looking at your log you will be beating me at it so you wont be last anyways, think of it as great training for the Connemarathon, I assume the Conn hills will be puny compared to what this will be

    Blueskye and Catweazle
if I am able to get to this I can assure you neither of you will be last ;). It will be my first attempt at anything like this and I'm no spring chicken so I don't mind being last as long as the tea is kept warm for me :)
