.....I did for the first time , as I was doing a long slow run in Mayo ( in the rain) the other week-end. I got involved in what I can only describe as a staring match with some cows in a field as I passed. I could swear that they were regarding me with friendly but slightly pitying interest............or maybe it was just lack of glycogen in my brain..........!

:D I've had the same experience! When I'm plodding along the country roads, I imagine they are thinking, "ah here comes RubyK, sure God love her" :o

I'm hearing you on that Lex Luther. Out for an early morning run last week with my flashing head torch on when this freaky pair of green glowing flashing eye's examines me from across the ditch. I naturally leapt out of my skin - and the feckin cow smiled at me! Then a whole field of these glowing green eyes! You'd think that they'd be freaked out by me in hi-viz yellow with a flashing light on my forehead? But no, them cows knew they had me spooked and the full field of them just stared at me as if to say "four legs good, two legs baaaad!"

not sure if anyone else has noticed but the cows also tend to face the same direction when in the fields! can be a little disturbing on a long narrow stretch of road with cows in both sides all staring at an invisible "happening" .
Waiting for a "click" and a sneering "make fun of me will ya" from one of these cows some day.

I heard before that cows in a field tend to face in a particular direction (ie north, south, east or west) of couse I can't for the life of me remember which direction that is!!! But I think I heard it on the Ray Darcy show - so it must be true :P hehehe

    From about 3:40

Shameless. But on topic, at least.
