Reset Bios Version

Hi, I have a HP Compaq 6910p laptop. I upgraded the BIOS to F.17. Big mistake as my laptop no longer loads the operating system, Windows Vista. It gets as far as "which version of Windows do you want to load" (Safe/Normal/Last known good configuration) and no matter which I choose the laptop restarts. I have tried resetting the bios from within the BIOS ROM menu but all I can do is reset the menu settings to default; I don't seem to be able to reset the BIOS version.

Some websites recommend resetting the CMOS battery; however this seems to be for people who can't get to the BIOS menu. Also, I have no idea where the CMOS battery is located. Do I have to take the laptop apart?

The Cmos battery "About the size of 1 cent" sits on the mother board and is responsible for keeping time and date.

It sounds like a corrupted Boot.ini file.
Can you boot from a cd ?, If you can stick in your windows disk you will get the option to repair windows.

Thanks - I don't have access to a windows boot cd right now so I downloaded a Windows Repair disk and burned the image file to disc. I changed the bios settings to load USB-CD drive first but the boot process is still behaving in the same way - either not recognising the disc or not getting far enough to load it.

The bios seems to be able to find the Hard Drive as if it could not find the HDD then the message "Operating System Not Found" would be on your screen. So like you said it could well be that its not reading the CD

Try the windows repair disk on a USB stick.
