I was just using my computer and I noticed in the browser history there was someone on some websites with nude pics of girls which looked quiet young. The only other person who uses my computer is my room mate. I've cleared the history now but am worried I could get in trouble for what he's been viewing. Is it possible I could now have the Guards at my door for him viewing inappropriate sites? I'm going to stop him using my desktop in future but is it likely I'll get in sh!te for what he's viewed?

    Hey OP,

I wouldn't be too worried about you getting into trouble, it was him looking at it after all. What I would be worried about is the children in the photos. If you think he's been looking at kiddie porn you HAVE to report it to the guards. They may be able to track down the children involved and help them. Honestly the last thing you should be worried about is getting in trouble, you should be worried about the children in the photos. GO TO THE GUARDS!!!! If it turns out that the people in the photos are adults then sure no harm done but if you really think they were kids you'd need to get your priorities straight.

While I would love to say the Guards are gonna come and take your roommate away (assuming he didn't just stumble on these), I can't because they aren't.

The likelyhood is nothing will happen.

Also, while I would love to say go to the guards they might be able to track down the girls involved and get them help.

The Fact is, they won't. If the pics are on the internet then they are already being looked into by Agency's like the FBI and Interpol.

My advice Delete all traces, short of a format, and confront your roommate.

Where do you think Interpol and Europol get their staff? Get their information? Their leads etc?

Don't let the cynical answers above stop you from doing the right thing here. The guards will investigate child porn on the internet. The idea that just because it's on the internet the guards/interpol know about it is unbelievably stupid. Don't delete anything else on the computer and go report it to the gaurds. If you're wrong and it's ordinary porn well then there's no harm done. If you're right and it's child pornography the gaurds will investigate it and hopefully help the children involved if they can be tracked down. At the end of the day you suspect that these are criminal images of underage children, stop debating it and just do the RIGHT THING. REPORT IT TO THE GUARDS!!!

    Hey OP,

Never mind you getting in trouble, you've done nothing wrong here.

I'd be more worried about what kind of person your living with if he is in fact looking up child porn. On the other side if you go to the guards about this and turns out to be completely innocent, I wouldn't say your housemate would be too happy if he gets wind. I'd imagine he'd be downright hurt and if you've going around spouting to people about this and he's done nothing wrong he could very well have a case of slander against you. How well do you know this guy are ye friends??? You should go to the police but don't give this guys name or his details unless it does turn out he's been looking at sick images.

When you say quite young do you mean children/teenage children or "Barely Legal" type stuff? If they were clearly young adults with a "schoolgirl" look then no crime has been committed. But if it was obviously pubescent or prepubescents then you really should report him.

Bear in mind that if you are using a pc someone who knows what they are doing will still be able to retrieve the history.

Hi OP. Well first of all tread carefully here.

First things first, put a password on the computer to prevent your roommate from using it.

Then I would personally speak to him first, as has been mentioned he may have simply stumbled on these will looking at say, regular porn, but then again probably not. This guy doesn't seem to be particularly computer savvy as he didn't even bother to delete the history, but as said before, anything he may have deleted in the past can be retrieved by someone who knows what they're doing.
    I
f you find his answers unsatisfactory, as I imagine you will, then proceed to warn him that you feel obliged to inform the guards, or simply go ahead and do it anyway.

I would also do my best to make 100% sure that these images are of underage children and not simply very young looking 18 year olds, as could be the case. If the guys is spoken to by the guards you may as well kiss your friendship/situation goodbye.

Regarding your fears for yourself, I wouldn't worry about anything happening to you, as you are the one presenting the evidence/complaint, but do be prepared for them to go through everything on that computer with a fine tooth comb, and your flat as well probably, if they take the complaint seriously enough.

OP, you're not going to get in trouble.. People get in trouble for saving images and for paying illegal websites. Anyone can click a wrong link.

As far as the housemate goes, the sheer hassle of going to the guards, having your computer confiscated indefinitely, going to court would put me off.
If the girl looks 5 years old, then def go to guards.
If the girl looks 15, leave it. There's no proof that she's under 18.
And I hope everyone realizes that even if the girls turn out to be legal but young looking, you've still ruined the man's reputation for life?
This stuff always gets out and just like a rape accusation, a pedo-accusation sticks whether there's a conviction or none.

My own ex-housemate is in court next year for statutory rape (why I don't live with him anymore) and word got out.
    He's since left the city.
