Looking for opinions from fellow players in the North-East region about the 7-day membership offer that Seapoint have - €1500

    link here

Considering I have a friend who is a member and can sign me in at almost anytime from Mon-Fri for €20 is it really worth paying €1500 for the yearly fee?

I know it probably depends on the circustances, ie: how often do I intend on playing.

I think for a fantastic course that will be open all-year-round it's decent price. I have friends who disagree and just wondered what the overall perception is from people on here?

    Will really appreciate your thoughts..

Played Seapoint his year and thought it was a very nice course indeed, the first 9 and a few in particular are parkland than the back nine is a real links. The 17th (I think) with views along the beach is stunning and you get a good look at Baltray.

So as a courses go I would really rate it, and at €1500 I would consider it decent value as golf memberships go in an overpriced Irish market.

Again it all depend if you want to play in competitions, generally on Saturday & Sundays, if not than sure you’d be happy sticking to playing mid week golf at a cheap €20. If you spent the €1500 on green fees that’s 75 rounds… but especially during the summer when you want to tip out for a few holes in the bright evenings, the thought of paying €20 might put you off for just playing a few holes. The beauty of being a member you can play pretty much when you want, but again you’ll have to stump up the €1,500 which might be a stumbling block…. Again it all depends!

    Thanks lads for the reply.

Doing the maths in my head like you said jimjo, all really depends on how often I intend on playing. I'd reckon probably be twice-a-week for probably 40 weeks of the year so it works out as a decent option for me but I never once thought about the point you made about tipping out in the evenings for a few holes and that, good point and taken on board.

Cheers, think I'll take go with my gut and take it up.

I live fairly close to seapoint and agree its a good course. I heard rumours they are in huge debt though as a result of renovating the clubhouse a few years ago. Recently somebody told me the debt was 2.5Mil and they were in serious trouble with the banks. Its not long ago that a full share membership was 16,000E. A good friend of mine also told me recently that a lot of their full members are trying to sell their shares at whatever they can get for them and that recent AGM's had been very stormy to say the least.
Having said all that I woulld consider 1500E to be reasonable value. I would hold tough for a while because I honestly believe it will be possible to get yearly membership for around a grand in clubs in this area.

Seapoint is a cracking course, and if it didn't live directly under the shadow of Baltray, it might be thought of even more highly.
The 1500 doesn't just get you x number of green fees, it also gets you a GUI handicap and access to interclub golf. Well worth the money if you play it even once a week.

Yeah I didn't want to give too much of a lob sided view but yes I'd go for that membership option if I lived near Seapoint. Screw the green fees, you'll be apart of the club being a member. Say in Dec & Jan you mightn't be able to play twice a week but in the summer months you could well get out 3-4 times in the evenings if you've got the time..
