A friend of mine who's not very internetty has just aquired himself a Morris Minor and is looking to for a few bits to help turn it into a sleeper. He reckons he's going to dump a 2.0 litre Mondeo 16 valve engine into it because a) its compact enough and b) they're common enough. Now he just asked me to post on some forums that he's looking for a few bits i.e the above mentioned engine and he's also looking for a type 9 or MT75 gearbox. Any help would be great . Thanks lads.

I dont know if its the done thing but this guy's a bit of a nutter. Its as likely to be finished perfect as it is to be for sale on ebay in a year un-touched. He's owned ( as daily drivers ) everything from a 64 Ford Zepher to a 2.9 Granada , 70's Daimler 6 , unknown number of minis and wouldn't you know it a Morris Minor. His current everyday car is a 1990 300 SE so I think you can see the type of head case he is.

There are two type of Zetec, Black top & Silver top. One came from the Focus, and one from the Mondeo. There are differences, but I can't remember exactly. The water pump comes to mind, and the direction of rotation

I was looking at dropping a Zetec into an Escort before, and I needed
    1. Engine Mounts
    2. Water Rail (the thermostat is at the bellhousing side of the engine and is too large)
    3. Large Rad
    4. Fuel Lifter pump, Swirl Pot & Hige pressure pump
    5. Inlet & Exhaust manifolds
    6. Throttle bodies/DCOEs
    7. Coil Pack & mappable ECU (Using the Ford ECU is a no-no, as the ecu will revert to limp mode)
    8. Brakes
    9 Hybrid Clutch.
    10. Starter.

The T9 will bolt straight onto the Zetec, and the 2WD MT75 will as well, I think. The 4WD MT75 has a different bellhousing.

What he needs is a welder (to make the one off mounts & new transmission tunnel) and to phone Retro Ford in the UK, who specialise in Zetec install into Old Fords for advice. http://www.retroford.co.uk/ The Bulkhead may need to be "massaged"

I'd have a look at an Old Ford that has it done to get ideas & info

Other than that, I know it's been done before. I saw one two or three years ago but never noted the details.

mondeos have both black and silver top engines, its realitively easy to conver them to rwd, will be doing it next year for a capri myself

need an 1800 flywheel clutch and pressure plate and a longer clutch release bearing which you can buy on ebay

oh and you can use an original mondeo ecu to run it, must be a pre pats one though or else some modules out of escorts fiestas and orions will run the engine aswell
