    As the title says:

I took delivery today of a new Xbox 360 elite from Amazon.
    Everything works, but...
The power supply box makes a very loud noise.
& I mean loud, as in hard to hear the tv loud and its very annoying.

Its a 203watt grey brick like object.
Power light goes green when switched on as it should.

But again its the very loud noise!

    What am I to do?
    Is it faulty?
Surely this cant be the norm?

    Many thanks for your help

Are you sure it's not the fan in the Xbox itself rather then the power supply unit.

Xbox's are known for the fans being quite noisy.

if its new it has to be very old stock. The newest should come with 150w or at least 175w.
But I've seen them being noisy. Mostly when they were well used

No its definetely the power supply, I've confirmed that.
The console itself is fairley quiet. & everything else seems to be fine.

It only starts going crazy when the console is powered up.
    Its silent in standbye mode.

As I said, its really really loud.
Is there anyway to stop it?
Is the only way to troubleshoot it to get try someone elses power supply?

    thanks again

have you a link to the one you bought?? there seems to be a two types

Xbox 360 Elite Console (120 GB Hard Drive)
Xbox 360 Elite Console with 120GB Hard Drive (2009/2010)

curious, cause i just ordered one off amazon aswell. I went with the (2009/2010) model.

    I ordered This
I'm pretty sure its the new Jasper version.

& As I said, it seems fairly quiet though is totally drowned out by the noise of the power adaptor

I mailed Amazon & they advised they cant replace the individual component.
They can do a return for the whole product, which is a bit of a shame.

I mailed xbox but havent heard anything from them

(and x box's help line wont allow calls from mobiles, only landlines! why o why!)

Strange as I registered few consoles over the phone (mobile) without any hassle. What number are you ringing?

yeah, all the reviews and comments seem to suggest its a Jasper alright...good few comments on how noisy it is aswell. I assumed that was the console they were on about though, didn't think a power supply should be louder that a low hum.

They can be got anyway, if it comes down to it...probobly less hassle and cheaper than sending the lot back to amazon...pain in the arse though

I tried both 1800-509186 & 1800-509197 from both an o2 & Voda mobile to get the same alert that the call couldnt be connected.
Works fine from a landline however there isnt one from my home.

I think your right though about just replacing the power adaptor myself.

I dont particularly want to return it all as its my first console since the SNES!
and its a nice piese of kit.

I think I will try someone elses power adaptor.
Though they are likely to also be the older 203 watt one.

    try this:
    +353 12420758

also 203w even if its the oldest one works fine on all consoles.

And if you're really stuck for one, pm me, I will sort you out.
