    Hi all,
I was abroad and saw a number of vehicles (esp. buses & mo-peds) which ran on gas. Do we have any vehicles here in Ireland that run on gas?
And I guess at this stage of my interest, anyone know of any forums specific to vehicles which run on gas that I can learn a bit more??

    Thanks in advance,

Here in australia you can get your car converted to LPG, it gives a bit less grunt but is cheap as chips to run.

No real market for gas powered vehicles due to it being taxed heavily here, there's no real cost saving, hence few dual fuel / gas converted cars, so very few filling stations sell it, so not much point is running a car on gas... it's a vicious circle.

    thanks brendansmith & 'alias no.9'

Do we have LPG here in Ireland? I assume you can't just use something like a Calor gas or flogas cyclinder?? It needs to be a 'special' type of gas??

Do you guys know of any forum about this?? Europe / Austrailia or US forum?

www.ilpga.ie lists the massive number of filling stations with LPG... I know of more that sell green diesel!

LPG is unpopular here as its not given stupidly large tax discounts like it is in the UK - its not cost effective here realistically.

From memory the main distributor of LPG for cars here is Calor!

    And Flogas.

The availability of LPG nationwide makes the whole debate implausible.

Way back when I used to work for major LPG installer the conversion was worthwhile as many forecourts had LPG. Not so anymore.

My converted 1989 1.6 VW Passat used to get over 800 miles on both tanks.

800 miles! I didn't think you would get that much on gas - impressive... (Or is that just my naivety here?)

Also, please excuse my ignorance here, but it is as simple as converting the car to run on gas, then buy one of those orange cyclinders you see at a forecourt, Pop in the orange cyclinder and off you go?
Are they the same cyclinders you get for a gas fire or are they a lot different??

800 miles on BOTH tanks - petrol and gas.

And no, it's not a replacement cylinder. It's a permanent cylinder that's mounted in the boot that needs to be refilled by a gas filler pump (similar to a petrol pump) with a specific screw on nozzle and a conforming gas storage tank and area. As the amount of vehicles that run on gas in this country is now quite small, forecourts are unwilling to pay the cost of adapting to supply gas - a car wash would create more revenue!
