Whats needed for pc to arcade screen?

Hi guys, still debating about the use of LCD or the existing screen in my planned Mame Cab conversion. I was more or less decided in going the LCD route, but one or two people here have kinda swayed me the opposite way now.

Assuming Ill keep the existing 19" arcade screen, how exactly do I interface the pc with this. As far as I understand, Ill need a JPAC which looks like a very nice little product. I plan to use powerstrip 3.8 also. But something is niggling in the back of my mind that I need a an arcadevga card too...

Do I really need an arcadevga card? Or will powerstrip combined with a JPAC do the job for me guys?

    Cheers

you can use an arcadevga and breakout cable(easiest option)
or soft 15 and make your own cable

Cheers Cynos, so what your saying is the special hardware video card is only needed if you DONT plan on using soft15?

    exactly.
Soft15 works with most nvidea cards and many others
    see wiki here http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Soft-15khz

I have an old generic AGP card if you want it. It was tried and tested with Soft15Khz and it works perfectly.

Really appreciate the offer Sengoku - thanks man, but Im gonna try use a card that packs a little punch, for the other emu's which use hardware acceleration.

I have all the bits for the internals now pc wise, so just need to order the JPAC. Has anyone any experience with powerstrip, compared to soft15 say?

What other emulators are you going to use?
Just note that the JPac only supports the same as jamma ie.joystick/coin/start and 4buttons per player

    **EDIT**
Sorry think i'm actually wrong there and the screw terminals are good for another 5 buttons per player

Never used either soft15 or powerstrip but from being a member of arcadecontrols.com and reading through threads everyone seems to be using soft15

As far as I understand it, the standard jamma connector takes care of buttons 1-4, then you are correct there are screw connectors for the extra buttons. The guys @ arcadecontrols know theyre stuff so perhaps soft15 is the way to go. Ill get the hardware together anyway then worry about which proggie to use. Thanks again guys.

Wait till you see how quick ultimarcs stuff arrives, usually 24hours
Andy is very good in there too.
I've bought alot from them in the past.

Check out http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/ by the way, by far the best frontend and some serious work going on in it at the moment.
