Lost second molar

I had my second molar removed 2 months ago, as it was decaying due to the position of my 3rd molar, which I couldn't get out because it was sitting right on the nerve. I still haven't got used to eating, I just can't basically. Everything I eat ends up in the socket, irritating it and causing me pain. The dentist acted like losing it wasn't a big deal but it is to me. He said the wisdom tooth would hopefully grow up and close the gap a little but that won't happen for ages. Has anyone else been in the same position? It's getting me down, tbh, I can't enjoy my food because of it and the socket is healing badly due to all the food getting in it. :(

    Hey Izzy,
I've had a couple of teeth out for similar reasons:( and the gap does fill eventually, and you do get used to it-it's just really annoying for the first wee while! Just to say, to try aid the healing after food, rinse the area with salty water (just throw a wee bit of salt into a glass of cold water) after meals etc. Also, give your dentist a ring if you're unsure of how it's healing, better safe than sorry! Hope it heals well for you:D

  • OK, thanks, that makes me feel better! Just hoping I don't have this gaping hole all my life, it's rather unsightly when I have to poke my tongue in to get bits of food out, I've stopped going out to dinner with people cos of it! Fingers crossed!
