    Hi all,

builder rang today asking what sill am i going for, the ligher or heavier option, i asked what was the difference, he said one is about 2 inches in thickness at the front, and the other is about 4.

I asked is there a preference in one over the other, he just said that the 4 inch one is probably better for a country traditional small window ( more chunky)

my self are having large window openings, floor to about door height. the 2 inch would look better for me. . .

is there any other way i should look at this,,,

so many decissions.. who would have ever thought. .. lol

    cheers

I think the chunky window sills look better, the thinner ones look a bit basic and cheap.

    Just my 2 cents!

I also think the chunkier ones look better.

If you are going for a very contemporary house design then the thinner ones may suit better but its all down to personal taste I guess.

Have a look around at houses in the area.. More than likely, the thinner ones are used on cheaply built houses in devlopments whereas the thicker sills on more one-off housing.. Of course, it's a personal choice but it'd be the 4 inch ones for me every time..

Depends on the design and 'look' of the house.
Narrow sills can look great on the right house with the right window.
Then again, so can deep cills....
Can you get an elevation drawn up for you showing both options?

Typically the narrow cills look very 1983. I wouldnt use them anywhere. Having said that, if your design is very different, you might want to do a comparison to see what works

we put in thick granite cills and I have to say they look absolutely brilliant - nice and chunky looking. they'll really compliment the windows. can't imagine having thinner ones. think they they're about 4 inches at the narrowest (outside) point.

    thanks all. . .

i guess the main thing here it what you personally think will suit your own house. .

I am living in a rented house at the moment, it has 2 inch sills, (measured at the most outter point from the window).

with my sills only 1ft or 2ft off the ground, i am going with the light ones. . cant imagine a chunky sill that low down, but i would agree that if i had higher windows, it would be nicer with the 4 inch. .

just to confirm, the light ones are 2 inch on the outside edge, and the heavy ones are 4inch. .?

hey edge, im taking next monday off work to go to that window company i was PMing you about. . . will finalise what i want then. .

decissions are hard with so many choices. . .lol. .
