    Hi,
I just got the modem today and so i decided to hook it up.
Eircom told me that I wasn't meant to be connected until 16th but how is it work.
My speed tests are slow. I ordered 7MB. the tests are only 2mb showing.
I also used a 12-15 metre telephone cable to allow me to put the modem in my room. it made it go slightly slower. i also noticed that wireless is very slow on the modem and cable is better.
Why would my connection be slow?

How far did you say you were out from the exchange ....never mind what the salesman said .

Plug it straight into main socket, no filters no sky box or phones plugged in anywhere, now whats the speed ?

Well if your not supposed to be connected until the 16th, maybe your limited to 2Mb until then?

I didn't try without using the splitters but i did put it near the socker and still get less than 2mb. the eircom tech says wait until wed. i hope it goes up a good bit.

On the router it shows these:

Downstream Upstream Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 7168 384 SN Margin (dB) 7.80 13.00 Line Attenuation (dB) 40.50 21.50 CRC Errors 3 0
I tried the the speed test here:
    http://www.irishisptest.com/runmyspeed.php

twic and the first test showed just over 4mb then second showed just over 2mb.
    what you reckon?

Hey i removed the splitters and connected the modem directly to the phone socket and still the same speed.
    Whats up with it?
Do eircom still have to jumper it?

shows a connection at 7mbit, tight margin at 8db .

Need to run pings because it seems OK , next suspect is congestion .

try the speedtest.net speed test instea dof irishisptest

    Whats eircom's upload limit?
I checked my download stats and it only shows 40gb instead of 50gb.

Are you talking about CAP? If on eircon don't worry they have never enforced it.

That sounds like a problem with your router or something to do with your local network. Could you try a friends modem router on your connection and see if that works.
