Cancelling JSB/JSA mid-application: how to do it? and what happens?

How do you go about cancelling JSB/JSA (for the reason of no longer actively seeking work) while your JSB/JSA application is being processed?

Also, what happens? Do you get a payment for the time from date of application to the date of cancellation or do they just drop the application altogether?

Would it be better to let the application to run its course, and then cancel?

You can go ahead and cancel whenever you like. If you were unemployed at all, no matter how many weeks or months ago, and you signed on, despite whether or not your claim was processed in time, you should still get paid for those weeks.

Once your claim is being processed, nothing stops it. It;s processed to decide whether youre entitled to it or not, and if you are, thats when theyll see if you cancelled it or still want it etc. so you should be good to go ahead and sign off.

Thats how it was for me anyway, but in saying that, its probably best to check with them officially anyway. Just to be sure.

    Thanks for that KKV.

When you cancelled did you do so by phone, letter or in person? Did you cancel just like anyone does or did you tell them your application was in process?

Also, did they just post out a check for the weeks you were out of work or did you go to the post office (as I imagine you would to collect the first payment if you were continuing on as normal) to get that payment?

    Cheers.
