    Hi,
I'm looking for some advice on getting a christmas job. Has anyone got any ideas on where to apply or what places are actually looking for staff?? I'm a first year college student so i'm just looking for something for a few hours really for a week or two. I'm living in Dublin so something in town would be really handy! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Google, job sites, go into places. Nobody will do it for you. How are you going to get through 4 years of college, wow...

Basically your post translates into "looking for job in dublin, help"...???

Ah I'd say you did.I think I got it....once she asked me my date of birth because you can't ask that unless you've got the job...something to do with discrimination?!

It was all so casual though, I wasn't sure walking out!;)

Of course you can ask someone's age before giving them a job. If they're underage they may not be able to work certain hours that you need etc. Much like you can ask for ethnicity or religion as well to keep a record of applications and prove you're an equal rights employer. It's not illegal to ask, it's only illegal to deny someone a job based on their answer.

    Good luck either way :)

I thought it was against the law to ask someone for any personal information such as DOB, religion etc during an interview?

I could of course be wrong, I know for sure though its not wrong to record it if its offered by the interviewee, but you cant specifically ask for it.
I know one of the recruitment agencies I worked with before asked us to remove the ability to search for DOB on our software because they had been told that having the ability to search on someones DOB was against the law.

Its all a bit of a grey area I think.

No You are allowed to ask if they are over 18 but not allowed to ask your actual date of birth. It is apparently discrimination. The person interviewing me told me this afterwards!!!
