    hi there
we moved house and contacted eircom. easy peasy! bring your router etc with you, wait 10 days and it will be fine. we are in same area so kept phone number. after 10 days, no internet. long story short...rang helpline loads, eventually got "engineer" out who put some gadget at the phone line and siad its fine, its my computer (laptop). went to sisters place, connected to her wireless no prob, so isnt my computer.
story is, computer says "connect to eircom.....etc.." and netopia router has all lights green except "internet" one which is red.
tried everything, changing splitter, just putting netopia phone into socket, changed wire on netopia! restarted a zillion times!...
    please help....thanks.

If the internet light is red, then there doesn't appear to be DSL on your phone line.

Can you connect to the router's homepage? Either wirelessly or using an Ethernet network cable?

Usually on a Netopia its http:192.168.1.254

There should be a page that would show whether or not you are sync'ing to the DSL - it would show you the speed down & up at which you are connected at. If this page doesn't show this then there's no DSL currently on the line and you will need to get back onto Eircom.

It's possible to have DSL (solid green DSL light) on the line but have no internet (red light).

OP, when you move house, even keeping the same number, Eircom sets up a new account with a new account number. At least they used to. It looks like the work on your line is done in the exchange but your new account isn't fully set up. You won't have BB till that's done.

Connect to your modem with a cable.
Open internet explorer and type http://192.168.1.254 into the address bar.
On the left of the page go through the various options. The first page should have an iption to connect/restart connection.

A red internet light is an authentication problem, so basically that line has not been jumpered at the exchange yet.
Authentication > Failed > Red Internet light
