software analyst: knowledge of hardware required

    Hi guys

    hope yer all well

    I have applied for a job that requires knowledge of hardware.

    WHat does this actually mean?

    Is it referring to being able to build a computer, or what?

    Here is the the job description:
    ########
    The role involves software analysis and application testing as well as some hardware configuration and administrative support.

    The candidate should have a degree in computer science or similar and have some basic experience in software or web development (e.g. C, Java, HTML, etc) and have good hardware knowhow. Basic experience in Linux is desirable.

    Well if you don't know, then why are you applying for the job? Sometimes when dealing with databases and other software, a knowledge of hardware is handy when choosing the optimum setup. If you had to write software for a USB based application or a serial port based application then knowing the hardware would be essential.
