The house owner was awarded €46k odd for having his house turned into a carpark. It seemed a bit low? for cases like this where an asset has been destroyed what is the general starting point, is it the replacemt cost or what the existing asset might have been worth? I would have thought that the replacement cost would be required to put the owner back to where he was before the event.

I read in the paper about that case and have to agree, it sounds very low as compensation. I can't remember whether or not the house owner still owns the site or not. if he does, how does it leave use of the carpark? Would he be allowed to charge rent etc?
Some of the skulduggery that goes on in Donegal is unbelievable. All you have to do is look at Gaoth Dhobhair from a distance: it looks like a Giant took a big handful of houses and scattered them around (quite a few without proper planning too!)
