Hi guys, I recently acquired a very cheap pair of more or less brand new Tiagra STI's off a friend who upgraded their bike. I currently have an 8 Speed trek 1000 with sora shifters, but it has a tiagra rear mech. The other night I managed to mangle my chain and I've bit the bullet and ordered a 9 speed cassette, a 9 speed chain, new cables and some new bar tape as the old stuff has got pretty manky.

The LBS didn't have the parts and were going to charge over the odds for the parts as well as the labour so I said, sod it, I'm going to do this myself for the learning experience. Anyone got any advice, hints tips, links to online sites etc?

I use the parktool website or sheldon brown for advice. Both are very good. Lots on youtube too if you search.

Shimano servicing documents/manuals are available on their website and very handy.
