if aerlingus are to have any hope of even survival, they have to get rid of the unions. they have to cut all loss making routes and seriously think about stopping trans atlantic services.

Ha ha, even del boy made his million my friend, Aerlingus have said that they might imploy staff from ni and england and use uk as base to Launch flights, Unions know they are fooked only matter of time before deal is done.

2009 has been a catastrophic year for Aer Lingus.

2010 will be a catastrophic year for Aer Lingus.

    Revenues are still failing.

Fuel (their biggest cost) is still rising.

Staff costs have already been cut, and any further cuts will only have a slight impact on the bottom line.

small point.. m ol told aer lingus how to fill seats about 3 years ago , drop prices.

I needed to fly from Brussels this week ,on the day, aer lingus was 170 inc taxes, ryanair 230 inc taxes(their normal same day price)

a while ago aer lingus would have been approx 300 for same day travel. they are learning. flight over 80 % full.

the unfortunate thing about reduncancies in AL is that the longer serving staff are more expensive to let go than the newer ones.( I think)

    Regards Rugbyman

p.s. the coming scattering match in the public service and in the state owned outfits will be to the considerable benefit of the country.

I agree and hope the gov have the balls to stop the unions prolonging downturn or digging us all into an even deeper hole than we are presently in.
