What time do acts usually go on stage at the o2?

In particular I'm interest in Russell Brand tomorrow night, just wondering what time he'll go on stage at.

Thanks.

Anybody know if there is, and who the support act is?

He was late then...

And rubbish unfortunately. Very disappointing. Between hecklers, stupid Northern birds wishing themselves happy birthday, and girls shouting at him to get his kit off, he seemed a little lost and a lot short of new material.

AND he was only on stage for about 55 minutes

I actually timed it and was 67mins, but you could probably knock about 15 mins off for all the heckling. I was actually sitting 2 seats up from the 2 girls who were callled up, they were complete idiots and were off their heads.

Very disappointed with his show tonight.

It was too short, and too self centred......I would never go see him again.

Pity, as I've always liked him on TV, but tonight he came across as very into himself, and spent too much talking about himself rather than being a comedian.

Just back in and thought he was crap. Knock off time for the video footage, heckling etc and and your talking 30 minutes max of an act.

That's what you call taking the p**s.

I was 4 rows behind those Northern bit**es. What the hell was wrong with them? I couldn't make out what they were shouting.

I thought he was excellent, could have been a little longer but hopefully he'll be back soon.

While I did think Russell was funny he had indeed very little new material.
And what new material he had was weaker than his old stuff I felt.

It wasn't the longest gig ever but I expected that really.
The hecklers were annoying but part and parcel I suppose, he gave them too much time for my liking.

I thought there wasn't much of an atmosphere at the gig. I don't have much experience with comedy gigs so maybe that is to be expected at a venue the size of the O2?

As a fan I'm glad I've seen him live, but I probably wouldn't go again, not for a while anyway.

i have been to a lot of comedy gigs over the years and i have never seen so many idiotic hecklers ... ever!! Really put a dampner on the night, shouting random words at the stage and you could tell Russell was getting a bit p*ssed off!

I thought he put on a pretty good show, obviously would have liked him to go on a bit longer tho;) ... Have to give him credit for doing the gig for charity and he also did a meet n greet afterwards!!

Will definately go see him again!:D

I enjoyed Russell. Thought it was a really good show. Have to agree the hecklers were extremely irritating. I didnt realise he did a meet and greet afterwards:(

To be honest i thought he was good. those f**king girls and the fella shouting peoples names for no reason ruined it.

it seemed to knock him off his stride not to mention make a bo**ox of the whole night for everyone.

it looked like he couldn't of got out of their fast enough.

hi there Im new and was at the gig last nite, Thank god you all feel the same. I was at his gig in the national stadium and it was brilliant, burlesque dancers, crowd participation (for ages) and a great show, plus time for questions at the end.

But last nite was just embarrasing. that nordy bird and all the hecklers spoilt the whole mood of the show. he was in and out in an hour or something. I thought the F*ck the queen and gordon brown remarks were just an effort to pi** him off.

gig spoilt by screaming idiots, timewasting abrubt heckling and general interuptions. spoilt for the real fans who were looking for a good night out.
FYI : you know the act feels annoyed when the are prompted to comment on the heckling crowd!! felt a bit bad for him being honest. very funny guy.

Hi there,

Im a new member and just thought id break myself in if that ok. I was just wondering if anyone else was at the russell brand show last nite? I thought it was quite good, went to his last one in the national stadium though which was much better. My question is to anyone who attended last nites gig, was it just me or was there far too much abusive heckling??
Jibes like *uck the queen, *uck gordon brown amongst the worst of which, I felt were out of order and just served to try and annoy brand.

Why pay money to heckle or abuse someone you like to listen to??? It was far too full of tweenies that wouldnt shut up also, even brand got the hump and asked one to come down to the stage just so she could air her view and let the show go on, she just would not shut up shouting. she then swaggers dow toward the stage to a chorus of boo's all whilst giving the crowd a 2 finger salute. Her point?????? it was her 30th birthday and (in her thinkest nordy accent) demanded people acknowledge her 30th birthday!!! F*ckin tramp!! waste of money, to attent a show and have the likes of her spoil it, she should have been told to shut up and sit down.

brand told her to sit down anf F*ck off, she got the hint by then I can tell you!!. great gig but cut short I felt and I cant help but wonder if he felt the night just wasnt going to go as most people wouldve liked.

I was at the show last night, and I was also at the first gig in the National Stadium and the show that he recorded for his DVD in the o2 Arena in London, and I do totally agree, the gig was totally cut short. Those prats wishing themselves a happy birthday really got Russell distracted. There was a good chunk of the show missing because of them I felt. And all that "get your kit off"..WHAT THE HECK DID ANY OF THEM EXPECT, RUSS TO GO "OK THEN".
As an above poster said, people actually paid to come to the show, and shout? As Russ said himself, if he has a problem with something, he just changes the channel or looks away. Sounds like some people should of done similar and possibly left.

Last time he played was at a midnight show in the Olympia; and it was similar then, the crowd didn't "get him"- he went mental on stage and apparently threw a chair through the stage with rage. My friends who were at it said they felt as if the crowd were expecting two hours of "ball bags" and "dinkle" talk- not his stand-up material which is 100% cruder and ruder. And the story was similar last night.

The meet & greet was a total sham. "HE IS NOT COMING OUT"...."HE IS COMING OUT, JUST NOT HERE"...."HE WILL BE DOWN AT THE MERCHANDISE STAND"...."HE'LL BE AT THE OTHER MERCHANDISE STAND".

Buy the DVD, watch it on one of the dirty evenings, and it is far funnier than the Dublin show last night. And if you want to see him free of the pointless heckling other than the occasional "I LOVE YOU RUSSELL", go to a show of his in the UK.

Russell Brand was brilliant last night, the people of Ireland and only 2-3 in particular are total morons, we paid to watch Russell not listen to some mentally challenged people (male and female) heckling the man they paid to watch.

The Russell Brand show was much better than I thought it would be and seeing Mr Gee perform live was a nice bonus but the hecklers and the amount of people going to the bar/toilet throughout the show was bizzare. Surely people can sit still for 1-2 hours without going for a walk.

I hope if he comes again they throw out any hecklers early on and let the comedian we paid to see perform. If you think you are funnier why not join the comedy circuit and do a few gigs, if not then ...

We are such an immature nation. I was at the gig last night and was embarrassed with the behaviour of some of the audience...
The small group of Northern Ireland people who went mental (why didn't they wait to do that in the Belfast gig?)
• The gob****e who shouted '**** the queen', '**** gordan brown' - pointless
• The gob****e who just shouted 'katy perry' (what was brand suppose to say to that?)
• The girl who shouted '**** me Russell' - twice
• The endless stream of people getting up to go to the bathroom
• The countless girls dressed all tarty (with no doubt the subconcious thought that they might score with Russell)

Haha Qwert2 you just summed up the show in 6 sentences! Brilliant!

Those nordy idiots pissed me off the most, they should have been kicked out.

I was at the Olympia and it was a cracking gig. He brought out an Evening Herald and done loads of off-the-cuff material.

He threw a chair threw the 'I Keano' set as the mic went for ten minutes and nobody from the Olympia came out to explain so he felt annoyed.

Last night was a joke though. We can see all those clips on YouTube we don't need to pay into the O2 for them.

If it was a two hour show then I feel they could be part of a classic but he just made no effort.

He's a professional comedian and could have easily filled 90 minutes. At the end he slammed the mic down also which I hadn't seen before. Has he, or was he p**sed off?

Not sure the O2 is a great place for comdian though.

That guy and his girlfriend were sitting beside me. They were both p**sed and I can assure you they never heard one thing he said. They just talked about Copper Face Jacks and getting more drink and going for a smoke and .. Katy Perry .. **YAWN**

Oh, you give them too much credit - they were so naive that they dressed like that to get some attention off him.

Those girls are so delusional that they believed Russel would see them and take them back stage. About ten girls sat beside us and for the half hour before he came out you would swear he was coming to dinner at their house as they just went on about what they were going to do to him and what they were going to say to him

Hi All.. so glad I wasn't the only one who thought he finished up early. I really enjoyed the gig and I thought it actually felt longer then an hour... but checked the phone after and it was 10pm! Those idots ruined the show with the heckling...won't repeat as all covered above. And I was fairly bemused by the amount of tarts there thinking he was just gone select them for a r*de! Unreal..

He seemed to have a lot more pages on his table with material to cover, that he just didn't get to....

I'd agree with the above too, seemed to be a hell of a lot of p*ssed up nordies there. D*cks.

The O2 last night was full of w**nkers. I was sitting beside possibly the two most off their faces people in the O2 and they wrecked my head!! The girl kept spilling drinks all over the place and then stole mine and the guy kept shouting stupid stuff like calling Russell Brand a man whore. He also heckled the other hecklers by calling them names too. Then he sparked up a joint which he smoked during the performance. It was pure attention seeking stuff

Have to agree that the show was disappointing. Much preferred the Olympia gig two years ago.

- The show was too short
- Annoying hecklers
- Use of old material
- Also, there was too much emphasis on 'Manuel-gate'. Yeah we get it Russell, you are so crazy and mad.
- Too much name-dropping!

I’m not sure what people expect when they go to big gigs like this but I would expect the same as last time I saw Russell in the Olympia:

Drunk people; people who never go to comedy but will go see someone who is a “celebrity” and no staff to man the audience if they are disruptive.

I’m not sure what the capacity of the O2 is but at a massive gig, there’s always going to be more eegits at it. Also, it’s possible to shout out “heckles” without any repercussions.

That’s why I don’t go see comedy in big venues anymore.

What annoyed me most about the time I saw him play the Olmypia (apart from an opening act who wasn’t a comedian and was a pointless addition) was that people just kept shouting **** out… shouting his catchphrases and totally upsetting any flow in the delivery of material. The material that was delivered was good.

Comedy gigs should, to a greater or lesser extent, should be treated like theatre gigs where respect is given to the performers. Intelligient heckles are always welcome.

At least at smaller gigs, people will be asked to shut up or get out.

I find at those big gigs for known names is that some people just see it as a night out, a night to go out and drink, rather than a night where they will see and listen. I’ve been at gigs where people talk throughout the whole thing and not listen to what an act is saying.

I’d rather pay a tenner into the Inter to see 4 acts and be entertained than pay 40 quid to sit and get annoyed by spanners sitting around me.

Sorry, but gotta disagree about the heckling.

All comedians get heckled at every show they do, and it's something they get used to.

Brand should be able to rise above it and move on.

I'm not condoning the heckling and it was bad (especially the two girls and the Queen comment) but overall I found his material to be weak and 67 minutes was not value for money.

Of course they get heckled but to call these 'Heckles' would be flattery in it's extreme. "**** Gordon Brown" and "**** the Queen" are just mindless crap and if they were shouted out at a comedy festival they would be told to STFU by the audience.
murpho999 wrote: »

He did rise above it and handled it very well and made a load of jokes about how the guy should pick better people for hi to f**k and preferably one's with less anal hair :)

I think eventually though it was just too relentless and you could see after the last time his flow was interupted he just said "Dublin you've been great ..".

I have seen bootlegs of the show online and I can tell you there was a good 50 minutes left out. That show lasts 90 minutes without heckles alone.
murpho999 wrote: »

Sure he didn't do any of the new material. Manual-gate and MTV quips are a small part of that new show. Why he didn't do it, I don't know.

The "Jedward" would have been excellent but for the heckling as just when the audience was interacting about X Factor those t**ts from the North chimed in and ruined the gig for us all.
murpho999 wrote: »

Agreed. I recorded some stuff and I have it as 61 minutes.

I enjoyed his Late Late Show apperance much more than I did the gig.

Any internationally famous comedian would have walked away early last night, I have been to a lot of comedy gigs (though never Vicar Street, mostly City Limits, Cork Opera House, The Point and The Olympia) but I have to say that last night it was embarassing to be Irish as the level of heckling was just incredible.

The Management of the O2 should have clamped down on the crowd from the start and thrown out the girls from the North who brought the show to a stop within a few minutes and as for the **** The Queen/Gordon Brown guy, I think a steward telling him to shut up would have worked as when Russell said he mental he shut up. (If not just escort them from the show as the crowd would not have been against this)

The lack of respect shown to Mr Gee at the start (a large portion of the crowd were just talking as he performed) was also very poor, I put that down to the size of the venue and people just being there for the main event.

What was also worrying on my first visit to the O2 was the number of people going for a walk during the show,(I mention this in my earlier post but it was amazing too see) I think the place should be in darkness and if you fall or trip then tough, have we forgotten why we bought the tickets in the first place !!

If anyone from the O2 ever reads this thread I have two ideas to improve matters:

1. Give the performer a much louder PA system so that they can drown out any noise just by talking and performing their gig

2. Stop selling beer in such quantities as the Irish bladder can no longer hold this level of liquid after all our years of opulence.

I am going to Eddie Izzard in December and if any moron sits near me during the gig i don't think I will be responsilble for what I will do.

Did the audience not realise we were in the presence of a genius last night ? I doubt very much they did and if you think about it I don't think any big comedian would have put up with the rubbish that we managed to come up with last night. If you want to experience Russell at his best buy his DVD's or CD's or download some of his radio shows and then sit back and enjoy.

I was sitting in the same row wth my wife beside those 2 dicks, they were off the heads,i really feel they ruined the nite for a lot of people. I was so mad with myself today for not doing anything as i didnt want to embarrass my wife if i decided to challenge them mind they probably couldnt comprehend if i did.
Def a staff member should have escorted them out as they were consatntly mouthing off. I def didnt effect his performance as they seemed to heckle right at the punch line! Is this what our nation has become? This is not new as i have ran music & comedy gigs before and you do get the odd heckler but not like last nite with feck Gordon Brown,Queen etc..and what about that freak shouting Katy Perry ..like what was that about yeah we f*ckin know dic*wad.
Oh christ im so angry my temple is throbbing :-)
The O2 is possibly the worst place for a gig like this,im sure he's mad with himself for letting the hecklers get to him, that was clear to see. I do like him all the same as i only went as my wifw is mad about him,he is a cocky fella but cheeky albeit.
I feel sorry for the 2 lovely couples sitting beside us as the main heckler even spilt her drink as he was constantly goin to the toilet for his fix no less...It kinda reminds me of going to certain Ireland games and these young thicko's shouting IRA this & that, like they understand how Irish men fought each other in the Civil War and died and this is the respect they pay! Im so sick of these assholes really like get a freakin education and then make your judgements..sorry gone off on one now....agghhhhh

Anyways where's Joe Duffy's number...:-) :mad::mad::mad::cool:

I run some gigs as well and when there's someone interupting a show I do the following:

-give it a few mins to see if they calm down/shut up
- see if other punters are being disrupted or having their night ruined
- I go up and ask them nicely to keep it down
- if it continues, I kick them out (or id it's difficult to get to them, wait for thm to go to the toilets and not let them back in)

In this situation in such a big venue, it is also up to the audience to police themselves to an extent. Not that you have to tell them to shut up or kick them out - but, security or management should have been informed and then you have a leg to stand on when it comes to getting your money back.

Also, Russell should have said "right, that's it, you're ruining the show for everyone else - security, kick them out". The crowd would have been on his side, he could have done material AND it would shut other idiots up too.

y.

I dont know about that! You might get the odd heckler but most of the time its a jovial comment NOT of the damn right offensive nature. Most Comedians are indeed prepared for Heckling and god bless the heckler when they go off at them..as they are made to feel like morons!

The reason why this was so apparent at the o2 was the fact that these people thought they could hide in a big crowd compared with that of the Int or down at the kilkenny gigs where you have less than 300 people in a small room.
It comes to a point when enough is enough! and for any Comedian constantly getting this abuse they are only Human after all and will react accordinly! Imagine you were giving a presentation at work and have a nobody constantly dissing you and your work all for the sake of attention, well could you rise above that? and not be peeved ???? I think NOT!
