Drive a 00 Opel Astra. 80K on the clock. 1.4 L petrol. For the last weeks, the engine management light has being coming on after 5 mins driving, then the tempature gauge comes on, the engine management light goes off. The tempature gauge keeps going till the end. The engine management light then comes back on and the tempature goes back down to cold.

This cycle keeps happening as long as I drive. While this is happening the fan comes on and keeps running till 5 minutes after the car is turned off.

    Anyone have any ideas

    Much Appreciated

If the temp gauge is going near the red there is a real possibility that you are cooking your engine. Is there sufficent coolant in the car ? If the temp gauge than goes to 0 while the car is running it may well be the thermostat.

Get a diagnostic check done, could be any number of things gone.
Best to get it done before any serious damage is done,
