    I'm working on a prototype of some robot-like devices for my degree project, which requires a 360 degree rotating sensor attached to a static microcontroller. The component I'm looking for seems unofficially to be referred to as a "slip ring", but also has about 10 other names it's occasionally called too. It's the same device that is in a beacon, which allows the lightbulb to rotate continuously while being fixed to a power source.

    The problem is, I can't seem to find them anywhere. I've tried radionics/maplins/a few electrical wholesalers in town, but no luck. Does anybody have any idea where I might get them?

    Slip ring are used on some motors. Normally carbon brushes are used with them. Perhaps you can salvage some from small DC motors?

    Thanks, I'll check out a few I have at home. Is it unusual that they're not available in any of Dublin's electronics shops or are they more specialist than I think?
