    Hi guys

Just looking for some suggestions/advice. Myself and a friend have decided to spend 2 months travelling around Europe in February/March next year.We realise weather wise that it might not be the best time but for various reasons we can't wait for the summer.

Also we are wondering would it be better to drive around ourselves or to go the interrrailing route?? Our budget will be about €3500 each for the 2 months. All suggestions and advice would be very welcome.:)

100% train it! much more relaxed, quicker, get to see more, takes the stress off driving in unknown places. have u ever drove in another country before?! I was tempted to do the driving before (and I love driving!) so happy I didnt! You'll also be more physically tired if u do the driving, the train is just more chilled out n u can have more fun! its prob cheaper as well with the way things are in the car rental business, their prices have doubled in the last yr I believe plus add in petrol, tolls, parking fees all totals up! the tolls can be pricy. But driving as has its ups too so don't rule it out totally.
3500k seems plenty if ur stayin in hostels n not eatin n drinkin in fancy joints! Regarding weather well u won't be out tanning but it should'nt be too bad! depends where ur thinking of going though!

    Hi there,

Definitely go inter-railing, I did with the boyf last year and it was brilliant. its' the best way to get around and it's totally hassle free. Have fun

    Thanks for the replies guys!

We have definitely decided on Inter-Railing it seems to be the cheapest way to go and the best way to see everything!

Does anybody have experience of travelling around February/March? Is the weather going to slow us down?? Countries we want to visit are France,Germany,Poland,Italy,Greece and maybe one other depending on time.

2,000 per person per month for travelling Europe would be minimum i'd say.

I spent less than 1200 interrailing for 3 weeks I'm pretty sure and thats including flights and tickets. I did Berlin, Prague and Krakow were my favourite 3 places. But it does get cheaper the further East you go.

We have roughly estimated that we will need €50 a day. We are going off season so lots of hostels etc offer reduced rates!! So for 3 months €4500. That is just spending money we will have our train tickets flights etc paid for before we go :)

€50 per day is still very little considering you have mentioned a few Western European countries. It may be off season but 20 on average will be gone immediately for your hostel, which leaves you with 30 before you have even had breakfast. I am sure you can do it but as someone who has done a similar trip before €50 is cutting it fine. If you don't go out much you should just about do it.

I don't know how vunerable the alpine routes are to avalanches which block the rail line. From Agatha Christie to Airport thrillers suggest they still are.

Getting around town may be slower. Less room for traffic and taking tentative footsteps. There will be alot of snow on the town streets of Central and Eastern Europe. Richer towns can afford to shift the snow more regularly. Greek islands have a reputation of being very wet during the winter, early spring.
However, bring good footwear or buy it over there and layered clothing and a hat there shouldn't feeling too cold on most days. There may be some wind-chill complaints on some days.

    Get in some skiing anyway.
