Insurance claim

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this but....

I had motor insurance with Hibernian until last week when I changed to Quinn... or so I thought. I sent off my disc to Hibernian and a letter explaining that I was changing insurer and that I wanted my no claims certificate back as soon as possible.

Instead they've sent back my renewal with the new disc. So I'm now insured twice on my car and had the misfortune on Saturday of having an accident. I rang Quinn and they said they'll have an agent contact me on Monday morning. I was reading the Quinn booklet and it says that they won't pay out if you're insured with another company so I'm kind of at a loose end here. Do I cancel my Quinn policy and make a claim with Hibernian? Or are they just going to tell me the same?

There's an agent from Quinn supposed to contact me in the morning about my claim and I'm kind of ****ting it that I'm going to end up with no car, no insurance, no job and no money to pay for any repairs.

    Help please.

Probably will get a better response in the Motors forum. Moved accordingly.

Edit: Did you keep a copy of the letter that you sent to Hibernian? It shouldn't matter though, as they should have a copy on file.

You haven't done anything wrong here, and the onus is on the insurance companies to sort it out.

Question though, why did Hibernian send a new disc if they haven't received any payment?

They sent a new disc because I only cancelled the day before my renewal and if you don't give them enough notice they renew the policy automatically.

best thing to do is too ring Hibernian, ask them to fax/email or post a letter to you, declaring that they had recieved your letter of cancelation and that your policy was cancelled.
once you ahve that there should be no issues with your insurance with quinn

Don't worry, its not a big deal. your current insurer is Quinn Direct and you will be making the claim through them.

Just contact Hibernian and send them back the new certificate you recieved from them informing them that you wanted the policy lapsed from your renewal date and that you have insurance elsewhere.
