Hi, I am just wondering does anybody know where I could find a tutor or someone that would be willing to give a sort of grind in how to use Excel? I have a project due next week and as I have never used it before, I have not got a clue how it works. I transferred from another college so was not in DCU last year when people learned.

Maybe the best thing would be to type "Excel Tutorial" into Google.

Yeah as above you can find this out using google pretty easily, but that said if you're paying I'm sure some computing student with the time would show you how.

Other than that why cant you just go to your lecturer or someone in the class for help?

Have looked at some of the google tutorials and introduction books from the library. Have also contacted the lecturer who just told me to look at some of these resources. The thing is I am computer retarded and I also don't know anybody in my class that I can ask for help. I also work pretty much every night during the week so time is hard to find. Just dont want to make a mess of a 35% project by going at it alone and messing it up. Not looking to pay somebody to do it for me or anything like that but just could use some help in learning how to do it. Is there any sort of computer support resources in the college similar to the mathematics ones you often see posted on notice boards?

What course are you in, Robbie?

In Excel, itself, there's a very useful Help. If you need to add some cells up, just type "add" into help and it'll tell you how to do it all (=sum(a1:a2)), y'know? If it's just a basic Excel project, Excel Help will most likely be enough. G'luck.

    Hi.

I did your course last year. What I generally find is that if you get a good excel book it takes you through step by step what you need to do and it makes it easy to follow. They are generally looking for functionality rather than fancy tables or functions. By following the book and by making sure that it works properly you will get a good grade.

Is the assginment still a budget project like it was last year?

Thanks, yeah trying to work with a book now I got from the library. No the project is on population data for all counties in Ireland. You basically have to find a bunch of data based on the 2006 census and then group it, draw some charts, and arrange it using v lookup etc. It seems pretty basic so hopefully I will be able to wing it once I put some time in to it. Its just I sort of freak out when it comes to doing new things on computers as I always assume I will fcuk it up.

I find YouTube really useful when I want to learn a new software tool. The following is a link to a beginners Excel tutorial

Never assume coders know too much about Excel:pac:
Accounting or Business students generally use Excel very often.

Never assume all computing students are coders :)

Enterprise Computing are doing coursework involving Excel for Quantitative Business Analysis.

You got me fair and square:pac:
Good bit of overlap between the two though.

I suck at Excel, so no pm's to me...
