Im just gone 22, Iv been having a b12 problem since the beginning of the summer where it was at 90 and its supposed to be 300-400 so i was on tablets all summer that didnt bring it up and now i have just started getting monthly injections. I also have an iron deficiency im on galfer for that. iv had IBS forever which has gotten intolerable lately so i just stopped taking the galfer for a while which seemed to help i am back on it now again. My appetite has changed in the last month (e.g. i am no longer hungry when i wake up in the mornings unlike before when i used to be ravenous and couldnt wait for breakfast), i gained about a stone in the course of a month during the summer which i am now trying to loose, and now iv started getting a tonne of spots all over my face and neck. i have been on dianette for about 5 years which i was originally started on for my skin which helped a little at the time but not a great deal and then i grew out of the spots (or so i thought) so i didnt think twice about the diannette after that and just used it as contraceptive like normal.

Nothing too stressful or emotional has happened in the last few months, i dont think i can link the deficiencies to these changes either because my levels were so low they had been depleting for a long time and there wasnt any major changes in my appetite, my weight or my skin, while that was happening. Dianette i have read is an extremely high hormone dose but i have never had problems on it no weight gain no headaches etc nothing like that that i linked to it so if i changed now id be afraid id only gain more weight on a different one!

Could i be right in linking it to the injections/tablets? iv started wearing no makeup during the week and doing my normal cleansing toning moisturising routine and i havent changed any my products. i just dont know what it could be!

i know i should be going to my doc with this but i just felt like one of those nuts who always think theres something wrong with them because iv been at the doc soo often over the last few months with blood tests etc and so i dont want to go back until at least after xmas. i might mention it to the nurse who gives me my monthly injections the next time im in but until then id be greatful to hear yer opinions.

Go to the doctor! You are on a treatment s/he prescribed you, you definitely need to follow-up on potential side effects you are experiencing.

Ah, I was on Galfer for a while. Iron supplements can cause really bad constipation. I only managed to take the tablets for about five or six days before I just gave up because I felt so bad. My tummy was really bloated and sore.

They say if you take iron tablets with a glass of orange juice it helps with the absorbtion so maybe give that a shot. I couldn't handle it though so just resorted to trying to include more iron rich foods in my diet.

I haven't really a clue about anything else you've said though and definitely do recommend a visit to your GP. Hope you feel better soon.

I suffer from ibs and I can't take the usual iron supplements. However I can take Spatone with no problems at all, my doctor recommended it as she also uses it. It absorbs into your body very quickly unlike other supplements and it doesn't cause constipation at all. Take with orange juice and like other iron supplements avoid tea or coffee around the time you take it.
