The differance is usually gear ratio and in some cases the weight of the gears themselves!
The high speed gears sometimes are lightened to help increase speed by reducing the effort required to turn them.
And they usually have a higher ratio than torque up gears!

oh ok cheers, so i'm assuming torque gears can take more strain before they go then stock gears, right gotcha.:)

Its like the difference between First, and 5th gear in a car.

First gear, has a lot of power to start you moving... but doesnt really go so fast. In airsoft, this is High Torque, your gears can take a lot of strain of a high power spring.... Pointless in Ireland.

5th gear, is really high speed, but low torque... you dont need much power to increase speed, because the car is already moving... thus maintains momentum. In airsoft, this is High speed gears. Designed to move faster, rather than heave heavy loads. Great if you want a fast rate of fire.

Standard gears for the most part are fine if one is running a gun as is.

A 9.6V battery will do that.

just looking at some batteries now does the mah need to be high cause i see a 9.6v 1600mah and a 9.6v 4000mah but not sure which is best plus dont want to damage anything.

depends on the model m249 your getting you may not have enough space for a large battery.

Mah, is the battery's current, it denotes how long the battery will last, a 1600mah battery won't last as long as a 4000mah, but the 4000mah will be bigger in size than the other.

ah i understand what you mean, iv been having a look at other threads and i keep hearing about lii-po batteries do you mind me asking the difference between li-po and mah or is it just battery life.

cheers for your help understanding this stuff guys.:)

Li-po is the chemical make up of the battery like Ni-mh or Ni-cd.
The advantage of Li-po's are that they charge faster, they are smaller and give better r.o.f (A 7.4V lipo is similar to a 9.6V Ni-mh).
However, lipo's don't last as long and can be dangerous if mistreated or not charged properly.

    That's why you get a 4000MaH LiPo and not a 2200 MaH one ;)

As for how dangerous they are? I have one, used and abused it in some attrocious weather (as only "sunny Sennybridge" can deliver) ... and it's still going strong.

TBH, they're fairly new (in airsoft circles at least) and all you hear are the few horror stories, not everyone else who has been using them for ages just fine. Granted, when they go pear-shapped, they *really* go pear-shaped which probably is what gives them their unfounded reputation.

    Oh really?
Fair enough, nevermind my coomon misconception. Duly noted Lemming :)
