Can someone let me know if Palmerstown House has retained its status as a PGA course. I have been told that the owners have taken the decision not to pay the license fee required and will therfor relinquish the name PGA National.

the owner, I wouldn't put anything past him that results in him not paying anything when he should

Heard license was NOT being renewed......course closed for next 5 months due to "drainage" issues.

Read it in the paper the other day that the hotel wasnt renewing its licence.

The course remains open. And will do for the winter apparently. There seems to have been a U-turn on proposed plans to shut for the winter. Which had little to do with drainage and more to do with the cost of the keeping the clubhouse open.

Hotel to cease using PGA brand
A luxury golf hotel has agreed to cease using marketing material related to the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) as part of its trading operations, the High Court heard yesterday.

Bridford Properties Ltd, part of the Jim Mansfield group of companies, has been operating the Palmerstown Country House Hotel near Johnstown, Co Kildare, under licence, as the “PGA National Ireland at Palmerstown House Estate”.

The court heard yesterday the licence terminated last May and the PGA had asked the hotel to remove all PGA signage from the hotel.

Mr Justice Roderick Murphy adjourned the matter to next month after he was told Bridford had undertook to remove the PGA material.

not suprised they're struggling, I played there in September and the range was overgrown, greens were terrible and drainage was very poor. I know at one stage they were looking for €6500 a year subs, wonder what they're charging now?

Any update to this? Is the course open at all and if so what are the green fees like?

I take it also that the planned swap with Newlands has died a death as well???

Was on the phone to them the other day as it goes. On the GUI site they got open days dated incorrectly, a new girl in the office inserted them wrong so they said.

They have opens every Monday for €60, it’s a bit much for my liking. Green fees would be close to a ton I would have thought. Great set up in regards to course, practice facilities and locker rooms, wouldn’t think their doing well at those prices.

Fantastic set-up I agree - locker rooms are really top-notch but I can't understand how they're still in business. I drive by there regularly enough and have only once seen people on the course. I've only played it once and we were one of three two-balls out there...

    Might try it some Monday.

Anyone played the Open Mondays recently, are there many on the course? Played a Sunday last Autumn and only a handful on the course. Wouldn't pay €100/€160 to play it again though (think I paid €90)

What;s the course like these days? What kind of condition is it in and how much are they generally looking for a fourball?

Thinking of booking somewhere in mid October, somewhere nice close enough to Dublin. Would this place be worth it?
