    Hi all,

Was just wondering what the situation in ireland is regarding music law. Are there any courses or firms that specialise in this area?

Who do irish bands go to in order to copyright their songs etc etc? And large companies such as sony etc, who do they consult with?

You may have noticed the time to start looking for a job is drawing closer... :(

Any info much appreciated, appologies for the rather ill informed post.

I think the area you need to look for is Intellectual Property Law - IP Law. Often referred to as IPR - Intellectual Property Rights, Law. Most firms will do this in terms of Copyright and related acts. The larger firms have big units of people generally specially focussed on this or crossing into the area of life sciences.

Bands will generally use their legal advisers first and then the record label they sign with will do the rest.

General area can be referred to as Media Law also.

    Thanks Tom,

I'm studying IP next semester. Could you elaborate on the life sciences bit more?? You've intrigued me! :)

Oh, that is just the division name some firms can place IPR - Might include other areas such as sport, media, retail etc. It just depends on the firm ....

I think UCD have introduced an IP stream to their LLM course. There was a thread about it here a while ago. I just did a search but couldn't come across it, so maybe check out UCD's website or get on to the programme office.
