O.K. peeps both are coming out in the next few weeks, which one are you getting excited about the most? For me it's S.Mario Bros Wii. I'm really looking forward to a return to the classic 2-D Mario platform games of the N.E.S. and S.N.E.S.

SMG2 is still a few months away (while NSMBW is out on the 20th).

I'll be interested to read reviews on NSMBW - it strikes me as a game that's more suited to party play. Not sure how deep the single player game will be.

I've played NSMB DS and it seems to be based on the same engine. Assuming that to be true I'd expect the single player game to be true Mario platform game. As for multiplayer,I don't know what to expect but it probably will have a party style to it.

I'm curious about SMSW alright, it looks like good fun.

    Thus far for NSBW

    7/10 Edge.
    NGamer 85%
    ONM 96%.

Awaiting a few more before committing but I think I'll be getting NSBW.

I expect galaxy to score higher though.

That magazine actually has zero credibility when it comes to reviewing Nintendo published games.

    Yeah definitely,

Anyways CVG gave this a 90%, review here.

Interesting thing about this review is :

The big question is how well all this plays in multiplayer. The possibly controversial conclusion we came to though, after a few hours with four other fairly experienced players, is that it doesn't work as well as you might expect. Essentially, we prefer the game in single-player.
Complaints of the game's multiplayer may come as a disappointment to you, but don't let it ruin your excitement. NSMBW just shows how truly timeless that classic Mario action is, and how Nintendo can still have that playful charm if it wants to. The way Koopers and other enemies all bounce in time to certain parts of the background music, or the way the game claps and cheers when you pass certain challenges - it's the little touches like this that made us smile over and over.

NSMBW is a stunning game in single-player, and a chaotic barrel of light-hearted laughs in multiplayer, accessible to beginners while truly challenging to long-term fans. Well done, Nintendo.

Very excited for both of these, although Galaxy is still a good way off I'd say, 3 or 4 months at the very least.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the Edge review, they consistently mark games significantly lower than any other publication.

They did give galaxy a 10 though.

And Halo  I'd never trust their reviews. I'm more inclined to trust the NGamer review, thats a quality magazine.

Anything less would have been a travesty. (well 9.5 would have been ok.)

Edge are pretty tight arsed in their reviews though to be fair.

IGN AU (who gave WSR a 6) gave NSBW a 9.2.

Looking forward to both, but particularly to NSMB, as it'll be brilliant to play with my daughter, which no other game in the series allowed so far.

As brilliant as Galaxy was though, i still have a soft spot for Sunshine which i'd put ahead of it. Despite not being as nice graphically and being generally more difficult, it felt more relaxed due to the setting. Galaxy levels often feel more lethal/agressive, partly due to the omnipresent horrible black holes.

Sunshine was relaxing? The amount of controller tantrums I threw at that game! It certainly wasn't relaxing due to the difficulty. Galaxy was much more relaxing for me except for one of the purple coin challenges which drove me insane (think it was on a level that looked like luigis face).

Haha, yes, sometimes the camera controls were less than stellar. And i'm pretty sure i'm not the norm considering the general contempt towards Sunshine. Still, just the theme makes it soothing for me. The feel of the levels generally isn't as oppressive as a lot of the Galaxy ones where even the most innocuous grass world can see death by black hole just a jump away.

I wouldn't have minded a Sunshine 2 rather than a Galaxy 2. With the perfected controls and camera, obviously. :)

I love Galaxy (didn't really get into Sunshine in the same way) but I remember finally getting all 120 stars (all challenges, secret levels and purple coins) and expecting something wonderful (or, at least, some artwork pictures :) ) but no...
it tells me that I can now play as Luigi and that I can try to get all 120 stars again! F*&"k!!!

Still, I'll probably get Galaxy 2, NSMBWii doesn't really interest me that much.

I got NSMBWii toay. Only playing single player until some friends call over.
I completed the first world in about 30 mins, very easy but fun.

The game plays a lot like super mario bros. 3 so if that's your thing you should like it. :)

Physically (in terms of mb) its a tiny game! If it was any other console it would have been a downloadable(live/psn) game. Compressed it is less than 400mb I've literally downloaded demos on the Ps3 that were more than 3 times the size!

i wish it was Galaxy 2 out for christmas, its the only reason i havent sold the wii yet!

Ah, but you do get something extra if you
get all 120 stars as Luigi
. I wouldn't call it amazing but it's something at least.

Galaxy 2 for me, I get the impression that NSMBWii was designed for multiplayer really so I'm not sure about it.

According to 1up's video impressions, the single player isn't gimped.

You can check their video impressions here

    Looks awesome!

IGN reckon its a better single player game, i hate the idea of multiplayer mario, thats what Mario Kart is for, NSMB and Galaxy 2 are the only reasons i still have my wii, well that and new Zelda, whenever the hell thats coming

You need to watch some online video of multiplayer in this game.
1UP and Giantbomb changed my mind.

    As well as this..

That video is insanely brilliant! :D

I've played it a little in 2 player and in 1 player I'm through to World 8 (Thanks Warp Cannons! :D) and to me it feels like a middle ground between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, with the style of New Super Mario Bros. and that's really not a bad thing at all!

This was posted in the Eurogamer Review comments section (9/10 btw) and I gotta say it's well...

Jermey Parish and the 1up crew love it and he gave it the highes mark possible. I tend to agree with him more than those snobs at Edge that gave it 7/10. Can't wait for it the 1up video impressions look like great fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Davidius

What I found very appealing about NSMB on the DS was the fact that I could just pick it up and go threw a level to kill a bit of time. As good as the Wii sequel looks I don't think I could ever feel all that into it playing it with my current set up.

A lot of which is due to having to switch around wires and get behind drawers and such whenever I want to play Wii.

Basically, I'm too lazy to plug in the Wii unless I plan to park myself there for a good while.

I absolutely hate Edge. At this stage I regard them as a tech rather than a game magazine. Anyone know how much they gave Sonic ultimate collection,Capcom classics,Midway treasures ect. I'm guessing not very high.

I'm really looking forward to this game. Hope it's not too expensive. I'm tending to shop at HMV more than the rest at this stage.

I am far more excited for NSMBW. I have Mario Galaxy at home but have yet to finish it. I was a very good game but I just got slightly bored by it near the end. I began to find some of the levels very frustrating, i.e. any level involving swimming.

I loved NSMB DS and played it through to completion and getting all the gold coins. The Wii version looks better and with mulitplayer it should be awesome. Just such a shame there is no online mulitplayer.
