Value of Guitar

    Hey Guys,

A few years back my sister bought from a auction (on the Jay Leno show) a signed Oasis Eleca guitar.

From what she remembers the guitar was actually Noels but I'm not too sure about this personally, as it looks brand new / new used. The guitar itself is signed by all the band members and comes with a cert of authenticity and a travel hard case.

She has never used this and now wants to sell it off, how much do the guys here at boards.ie think its worth??

I was thinking of ringing places like musicmaker and hardrock cafe and the likes to see if they wanted to buy it but I didnt want to get screwed on the price....so what do you guys think??

    Thanks,
    Phil

Not sure about the price, but you'll get much better value selling to an Oasis fan than selling into a shop.

    Hi Chris.

Yeah but while I do want to get the max value for the guitar I dont want to rip off the person buying it

Nothing to do with ripping anyone off, it only stands to reason that I (as a guitarist who doesn't care much about Oasis) would pay less for the guitar than some Oasis fan who is prepared to stand for four hours in the rain in order to get in early enough to be up at the barrier in every Oasis gig, who has seen them play every time they've come to Ireland and who owns everything they've ever recorded.

If you want best price for the guitar you need to go directly to the people who will put the most value in it.

You might sell it to the Hard Rock Cafe in Templebar, but it'll just hang on the wall beside a hundred other signed guitars.
You can sell it to a music shop who will want to sell it, but will need to account for the fact that they need to make a profit from the transaction, and that they need to account for the risk that they'll have the guitar in stock for 12 months before selling it.
You can sell it to someone who knows every one of Noel's solos and who's always dreamt of owning such a guitar.

Nothing to do with ripping anyone off, everything to do with what value various people will put on such an item. And to get the right price, you might have to be willing to be patient to find the right person to sell it to.

P.S. after a bit of Googling it looks like Eleca are very much a "bargain" guitar maker. The guitar itself is of very little value, only the signatures are actually worth anything.
