PS3 Repairs Dublin?

I am having issues with my PS3 at the moment. It looks like its the blue ray of death issue as I currently can play DVDs and CDs but not games (Is there any way to definetley confirm this??).
I have it for about 1.5 years but dont have any receipt as it was a present, so dont think I can claim back through warrently etc. Unless anyone knows anyother way?

Anyway I stopped into a console repair shop on upper Liffey street (Extreme could have been the name of it) and they said the price of repair is 110.
That seems a bit steep to me.
Anyone got any alternatives? Was thinking 80-90 would be the max.

    Cheers,

    Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I cant make it out to Bray though and don't really fancy posting my playstation to them. Anybody know of any other place in Dublin city to get this fixed?

    Thanks,
    Lorcan

I dont know if it would be worth the hassle of the amount that I will save over the €110.00 I have been quoted by the place in the city. Especially considering I will possibly have to collect it before 6 pm at some stage.

Cool well then id go with that price if i was you.
I dont think you will be able to beat that price really.
I think all the repair shops know you havent much choice.

talk to console repairs they might have somewhere you can drop it off in the city or arrange to meet you. This sounds like you will need a new Blu-Ray laser as they are the main fault of the PS3 as Sony used poor quality lasers in them.

I heard stories about people getting their PS3's repaired because they need to replace their blu ray laser and the PS3 breaks down after a while after getting it back. Just out of curiosity OP, have you tried restoring the database on your PS3? I did that on my PS3 that stopped working a few weeks ago and it started working again. I was lucky cause I was about to spend €150 to get it repaired, but when I heard about the database thing on a Youtube video I tried that and it worked.

I tend to wonder about Sony nowadays, to me it all seems like a scam to get more money off the customers. You'd think a 3rd Generation Conole like the PS3 would work better and last longer, but here's the catch. Most PS3's start having issues after 2 years of being bought, and of course the Warranty is expired so you can't have it repaired for free like they say you can if it breaks down in the first year. I mean the PS1 and PS2's all last longer then the PS3.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I tried system updates and restoring to default settings etc, but none of these worked. I do think its the blue ray laser issue, because it does make a weird churning noise once I put in the game. The disc icon loads in the top right hand corner but it just continues to spin. Also cds and dvds are working without any problems. Was this the same for you?? Or was nothing loading correctly?
Could you provide a link to the exact video you tried?

I got another qoute for 120 with a 4 month warranty and same day fix which looks like the one I'm going to go with. The only issue I have is that for all I know the laser is simply mis-aligned (which I have read about on the net) so I might not even need a replacement.

    Cheers,

Yeah it looks like I had the same problem as you. Games and blu ray discs won't work but DVD's and CD's will.

here's the video I was looking at. Just go into it and scroll down the comments section and some of the comments might give you tips. Just ignore the video cause it's not something I would recommend doing.

Cool thanks. I took a look at the comments and I think the below is what you're referring to. I'll give this a go tomorrow!

Hey everyone yeastori is right about it not being a hardware problem because I borrowed my cousins PS3 and swap out my
bad Blue-Ray in his and it work I put his in mine and still didn't work. So this is what I did. Turn off the PS3 from
the back. turn back on, hold the poswer button till you hear the 3rd beep then let go. wait 10 sec.
Hold the power button again till you hear the 2ed double beep let go it will then ask you to plug in the controller
in the USB and select Rebuild Data Base. (End)
