Kiddieproof carpet and sofas?

    Hi there.

We are about to update our sittingroom with a new carpet and sofas. We have two small children (5 and 15 months) so need to go with something fairly kiddieproof.

Can anyone advise on whether scotchguarding is worthwhile? Some carpets come with it already done - or we can pay extra to get it done. The carpets that are in the room already are probably about 20 years old and if they were originally scotchguarded I'm sure it's worn off and we've had this carpet cleaned a couple of times a year and stains always come out.

So, is it worth paying the extra for the scotchguard or not?

Then on the sofa front we need a 3 + 2. We would prefer leather sofas, however, we need one to be a sofabed. Any leather sofabeds we've tried really have not been comfortable. We found an easy clean fabric in a shop in navan which literally you just wipe with cold water and it's clean. What I dont' know is whether with this fabric it will stay easy to clean over time.

So, what is better with small kids - given we can't get a comfy leather sofabend do we go with this easy clean fabric, or get sofas and scotchguard them, or buy sofas with removable covers that we can wash.

    Anyone any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks

    Anyone any

Would you consider getting wooden floors at all? Your kids are young, and take it from me with a 3yr and 7yr, they only get messier. I've only ever had wooden floors, with a large rug, which I clean twice a year with a rented rug doctor.
As for sofas, I have a sofa with removable covers, so I can wash them whenever they start to look grubby.
Comfortable sofa beds are hard to come by, what about IKEA? I see they've a few in their catalogue.
Best of luck in your quest:-)

Leather sofa failry cheap wooden floor, dont remove the skirting. Why>

Sofa easy to wipe, wooden floor easy to clean,

Carpets and juice just dont work.

Dark carpets hide dirt ( No disrespect)

    light carpets stain

    Thanks

We really don't want a sitting room with wooden floors - we are good at keeping drinks out of the sitting room with the kids, the bigger risk actually is hubby and I spilling tea on the floor.

Have been doing some reading on scotchguarding on carpets and it seems to be well worth it. But would be interested in others opinions.

As for sofas with removable covers, we have that at the moment and my hubby has now insisted that we don't get them again. His preference is to go for stuff we can get cleaned professionally once or twice a year. Husbands!

Thanks for your advice. We are probably going to buy the carpet in the North and try and find a carpet fitter (we're in Dublin).
