Question about Archos and WMP

    Hey!

Recently bought an Archos 5 in America splashed out on a 250gb one very nice no complaints so far just minor problem which i hope someone's massive brain might be able to solve.

I have lots of music on it, about 100gb. My problem is that all this music used to be on an external hard disk and now im trying to swap it over. This worked fine copy and paste, but my problem is that now if i want to edit anything, say track name, or put a album image or something on, i cant because Windows Media Player wont accept music from the ARchos into its library for some strange reason. Am i just being stupid (probably)? I am used to iTunes. In iTunes i set the home library as being on the external hard disk, can you do something similar in Windows Media Player?

    Help?!

Errrm :D I don't use WMP, so i'll be no help to ya on that subject...but if you want to edit tags, album art, metadata and such, use a programme called MP3tag, it's very good...only wish there was a version for OSX :(

Thanks! That software is very handy alright, but it is a bit of a hassle trying to clean up entire music library manually. Is there any freeware software that can automatically clean up your music library, like fix track names, download album art etc? I havent come across any free ones anyway....

Depending on what you need done in terms of tagging the automated ones can be more hassle than they're worth (filling in the wrong info for example, totally messing up your library with misinformation)

Did you sort out WMP & that home library issue? if it can be sorted MS will most certainly have an excellent tutorial for it on their site.

I don't know about the Archos 5 too much, does it have a Hard Disk Mode or PC Mode for transferring files? Changing it to this through settings may help.

thanks cydoniac - the Archos does have an option for that - have tried already to no major avail - i dont think Windows Media Player allows you to change the location of its library... Annoying...

Also new problem - because I downloaded some albums off iTunes, they are now "protected" files - they will only work on iPod or on the computer - cant play them on my Archos. The only way round this is to burn them to an audio CD, then rip that Audio CD back to computer. So i did this only to find the bloody track names are no longer on the 200 and odd songs i just ripped. So i have to listen to them individually in order to name 'em.

At this moment in time I am very close to putting my foot through the computer in sheer frustration. AAAAAA!!!!!

Surely iTunes shouldnt be allowed do that... Probably in the small print...Grrrrrr

    Thanks for listening........

older archos units(av700) had an option of being seen as an external hdd or as an "arc library"(think this is the term). You can switch between the two, depending on how you want to transfer files. Have you tried this?

all Archos's I've owned (402, 404, 504) have a setting where you indicate it is to be treated as a hard disk once its connected to windows. Yours will be the same. Then you simply drag and drop.
