    Hi There

I picked up a new car on Mon from dealer...VW Touran 05 1.9TDI

The glow-plug indicator is flashing.

Am I safe to drive this or should I park up? The engine is running OK, might be a little slow to start. We checked for oil and water, its fine.

We got a mechanic to check it and got the thumbs up before we picked it up. It was on the forecourt since January, not driven in that time apart from test drives I suppose.

Would appreciate your help, had planned a day out and its actually SUNNY here!!

    Cheers.

Just bring it back to the dealer. Also make sure the car actually got a service before you collected.

Just to be sure, you are leaving the ignition in the ON position for a second or 2 before starting the engine?

Brand new cars are 2009 :)

    Check your brake lights.

Does that not put an engine warning light up as opposed to a glow plug light?

I have a VW, and when the brake light bulbs blew it was the glowplug that flashed.

I know the 1.9 tdi passat up to 2005 will fire all sorts of lights if all the brake bulbs are gone at once.

If there is a warning light (in any event and not just this case) on then I would contact the dealer first and follow their advice on whether or not you should drive. You don't want them to turn around and say that you made the issue worse because you drove it and now the warranty won't cover the damage, etc.

since you just bought it, bring it back to the dealer.....

but out of curiousity, is the glow plug light just on when you turn the ignition and it struggles to starts? does the light stay on when driving???
