    Hi,

when I was growing up my mum occasionally mentioned her uncle, who died serving with the UN in the late 60's. She knew that he has served in the Middle East, but didn't know the details of his death as she was quite young when it happened. I've been curious about this for a while, and with the death of my grandfather recently, I asked her about it again. She didn't remember anything else, and there's nobody else alive who was in his immediate family or who I know.

I've googled his name, and found that he served with UNTSO, but apart from a brief mention in a dail debate the following year, I can't find any details. I'm curious as to who he was, what his career was like, and of course how he died. Is there some repository where information of this kind is kept? Online would be best, but I wouldn't mind travelling to view the records. Would the Dept. of Defence give this information out by request, or would that kind of thing be restricted to immediate familly?

    Thanks for your time.

Well, only 2 DF members died while serving with UNTSO and only 1 of them died in the 60's, so that isn't too hard to figure out.

As for finding out the finer details of his career, I'd suggest maybe getting in contact with Military Archives?

I'm just wondering about those killed in the Leb. Now obvioulsy their was various factions responcible for their deaths, PLO, Hezbollah, Sunni and Shi'a militias etc but quite a few of them were killed by the Isreali's and the South Lebanon Army who were basically a puppet force of Isreal. So roughly anyone, how many were killed by the Isreali's and the South Lebanon Army, maybe a quater, a half or what ?

Not too sure if I'm being perfectly honest.

The lads who served over there will probably be able to give you an answer.
